The reasons appear to be competing business interests not really personal differences. Both Daniel and Zachary are competing for ownership of a brand that will serve the embedded market.
Daniel has a better start with his Gentoo brand but Zach can fix the strucural brandng problems that Daniel has with a new better thought out plan.
In a sense, its just another form of evolution. New types of devices will "evolve" and if they are successful they will live on. If not they will die and be forgotten.
Just because some things fail doesn't mean the process is useless. The next big idea will probably be something most of us couldn't have imagined.
Yes, that's what its like to use Linux but having the computer I want is worth the extra time to get it right. Apple and Microsoft don't give you the ultimate power and control over your hardware.
Once you have become proficient at Linux things like ALSA are not so bad. I enjoy computers so the extra time is not a big deal let's face it I can't bill $50/hr 24 hours a day.
In a perfect world the end user could select the rate for the incoming call. If it was an important call from someone I want to talk to then I don't mind paying my share of the connection time. But if its a pesky hanger oner than they can pay to talk to me and I'll do a revenue share with the phone company. Perhaps, I can turn my phone into a profit center?
Yes, but once DRM is in the PC itself this will get harder and harder to get around the run-time protection. It will eventually becomes more cost effective to use the time you spend defeating the DRM mechanisms to earn money to pay for the product.
This all really indicates that we need some standardized "Game Box" hardware. Standardization is what spawned the PC revolution. I think the same can happen in a Game Box / Set-top Box device. Then we don't have to worry about proprietary standards from MS and Sony.
The box could come with basic software but have a new OS changed by simply changing the compact flash card.
The following features could be supported:
hardware:
-low power requirements - x86 with enough power to play Divx and DVD - DVD/CDR player - two or more game pads - remote control unit - wireless keyboard - wireless mouse - ethernet or 802.11 - CF Card for OS boot so it can be easily upgraded by non tech people
Software:
- TV Tuner - TV Recorder - DVD Playback - CD Audio Playback with CDDB lookup - Divx Playback - MP3 Playback - OGG Playback - SNES Emulator - PS2 Emulator
There has been some debate on the GNU/Linux naming issue on the Gentoo developer's mail list. After RMS himself requested that Gentoo Linux change its name to GNU/Linux.
I feel that the distros based on Linux kernel technology could do a better job of giving credit where credit is due. Distros would would be wiser to drop the Linux moniker and some newer distros appear to be doing this like LindowsOS, Xandros and Lycoris for example.
An example boot screen of a well thought out naming and credit screen would be as follows:
Following kernel boot..
FreeOS (Linux Kernel on x86)
Made with GNU Tools and Components
FreeOS now initializing.
I think RMS would be wiser to start requesting that distros give credit on their boot screens to the GNU Tools and Components.
This would be akin to a manufactured hard good:
Product X
Made in the USA
Seems like a fair way of solving the recognition problem.
The name Bugzilla just implies it is a bug management syste. It is really an "Issue" Management system and so it is valid to make posts like the one mentioned.
It wass quite clear that Asa was having a bad day and could have been nicer to the user. Anyway, we all have good days and bad days.
First we should at least get the clipboard to work interoperately then worry about the harder stuff.
Yes but in California and Washington State they use the same currency US dollars so in the end there is no end effect on the country issuing the currency. For Venezula it is different situation since they have no control over issuing USD dollars. So by not buying US technology they stregthen there own econmony.
The real issue is that the Venezulian currency is just low in relation to US dollars so the country is poor valued in US Dollars. However, if this type of thing occurs on a global scale through Asia and Europe then this weakens the demand for US Dollars and it looses value globally.
This looks like what is going to happen to the US dollar anyway as cheap imports from China and increasing technoligical and agricultural abilities in Asia increase.
The US needs another innovation above and beyond computer technology to remain the global economic leader. Likely this will occur through nanotechnology or biotechnology. The country that can become the leader in one or both of these two technologies is destined for superiority in the future. This assumes that countries as an entity actually remain important. The corporation could end up suplanting government in the future.

Setup an IMAP server and then export all your Outlook folders to the IMAP server. IMAP does not support subfolders so you will need to have all your files just off the top level.
Since Brittany will not be able to pay, the RIAA should be granted the right to harvest Brittany's organs.
Try this:
[Copy and paste a single line to console and remove slasdot inserted space after 2116 for each url. This should work with a recent mplayer installed.]
ACtually Python would be fine Portage just needs to have a simpler host/target paradigm.
Right now Portage is very much a self targeting system.
We just need a tool that can build images for an embedded device.

As Steve Jobs has pointed out is that DRM's dirty little secret is that it does not work and will always be hackable.
The answer is to make reliable, quality, fairly price downloads available. Don't assume your customers want to be criminals.

AOL will just mail them out again.
ReiserFS works fine with the latest Gentoo kernel I'm using it right now.
Doesn't sound like you want to help then.
Which distro are you using that has all the above?
Yes, but once DRM is in the PC itself this will get harder and harder to get around the run-time protection. It will eventually becomes more cost effective to use the time you spend defeating the DRM mechanisms to earn money to pay for the product.
Samba was our beach head that allowed us to get a footing on Microsoft so we could execute missions in their territory.
The best thing is that our Samaba soldiers will still live on to write other great software to help us rid our lives of Microsoft software.
Thanks samba team even though I rarely use your Samba software anymore. I use rsync all the time on my Gentoo systems!

Its becaue Michael Robertson know how to work the US media.
An all flash storage system is a nice idea. However. flash has limited write cycles. So its not ideal for data that changes.

... the resulting MBOX files can then be imported into Evolution.

I had to setup a temporary IMAP server on Linux and then import all my Outlook folders to the IMAP server.
The IMAP server contained by folders in MBOX format which I could then import into Evolution.
I was able to apply Evolution filters to mine interesting data in my old mail and filter out old spam out of my archives. It was great.
