I'm so glad you asked. Given the scant details, this should be great fodder for a Java/PHP/whatever flame war.
Seriously, you expect good advice based on that. Having said that, look at some 'real' big sites and see if they use Java: yahoo, google, slashdot, etc.
As long as it's a real cf disk and not a cf card on an ide adapter card, then the disk control does it's own wear levelling and you can expect a long lifetime... unless, of course, you're running a crazy mail load. But it doesn't seem like it if 64MB is sufficient.
we would now be calling it 'freedom mail'. while I think the french culture police are a bit over the top, the same can be said for a lot of people on capitol hill.
let me get this straight, you ripped off an idea, spent $9 bucks on a domain and expect the real hard work to be done by a bunch of grateful volunteers. meanwhile, some dufus thought this was so amazing they posted the story on slashdot. great work all around people. if only it were really this easy.
Does the GPL cover this scenario? A port to a different platform is one thing, but a "translation" to another language is quite another. It's unlikely that it shares any actual source. The algorithms and method/functions are likely very similar, but that's not a GPL issue. In fact, it's the open source people who most frequently argue that algorithms shouldn't be encumbered by patents/licenses.
that's only about 1.5x what it costs to knock over a middle eastern country. I think we can fit that in the budget somewhere between a $350-750 billion tax cut. Unless, of course, this wasn't a priority.
that's an interesting assertion. what, exactly, do you mean by it? I use nvidia cards to drive several LCD displays (from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200). the image is crisp and clean. and the binary drivers are very, very fast. perhaps your information is out of date.
better yet, just buy a system with an nvidia card and use nvidia's binary driver (it's free as in beer) for XFree. that'll be as fast as the commercial X distros alluded to but a bit cheaper.
make better planes! time to retire these aging old coots and their mid-20th century technology!
you can turn off my cellphone when you pry it from my cold, dead... um. severed, burnt and mangled hands.
So what does Slashdot think?

and a republican goes in, you can bet the signature will be removed from the bill with kyoto-like kung-fu precision.
(Ironically, Scannell and Sassaman were two of the key people who launched the campaign to free DMCA victim Dmitry Sklyarov.)
please, please explain how this is ironic. it seems more like par for the course for these two.
how is this Brazil reference relevant?
The only way we can 'educate' our representatives here in the good 'ol US is with a basket full of cash and attached Hallmark card. 10 words or less.
when did that happen? I must have missed it on FOX NEWS. they're usually so careful to get the big, important, meaningful stories.
the decoded mpeg2 cannot be captured, it's decoded directly to the video memory.
you should see the size of my credit card.
latency (high) bandwidth (low) = bad for games
It's to save people the embarassment of pressing the button for the Porn floor in front of others.

doesn't this fall under 'fair use' since it's effectively research/education?
Can a happy medium exist between self-expression and the professional environment?
most employers take a dim view of self-expression. at least this is true in most of corporate america.

at least our voting systems will be open sourced so we can't be scammed in this way. oh, wait... damn.
why isn't this under slashback? i'm struggling to imagine this as a flourishing and insightful topic.

I've seen this somewhere before.
yeah, slashdot about a month ago. we call this the RAINs effect: Redundant Array of Infinitely-repeating News stories.
