Does anyone have any comparisons between Quake3 on Linux and in Windows 9x or NT 4/5? Im not talking Linux is faster because its better comparisons.. Hard facts comparisons [preferably with a p350 and ati rage pro chipset..:-)]
Yeah, god forbit anyone here ever bought software.. Give me a break, its $90, thats less than a upgrade to a Microsoft OS, and a bit more than Redhat charges for the book set of Redhat 6.. Stan "Myconid" Brinkerhoff
I got 3k/s on my 33.6, therefore 128k/s is far faster. Unless that 128k refers to 128kbits, which would be more like 12.8k/s and thus 4x faster.
Bandwidth speeds are always measured in kilobits per second.. 56 kilobits per second.. 128 kilobits per second.. Therefor 128kilobit equals 16 kilobyte [simple knowledge.. 8 bit = 1 byte.. everyone should know that]. Stan "Myconid" Brinkerhoff
The order server may be a new box - www2.x10.com. (I forget where the orders were processed on Monday. Maybe they did a really quick server upgrade to handle the higher load.)
The first time I tried to order the kit, it sent me to the secure site on www2.x10.com, but I decided against ordering them cuz the security thingy didnt match [it was fer www.x10.com]... The second time it sent me to www.x10.com.. This was a few days ago during the first offering..
If your company has the oldest piece of hardware in use in the USA, then theres obviously someting right with it. They are probably very happy with their setup because it gets the work done. Upgrading it to modern crap will probably harm their opperation more than it would help.. Stan "Myconid" Brinkerhoff

I can't see anyone wanting to get their hands dirty everytime their slugs explode because they over clock them, and where are the animal rights guys? If they were doing this with pigs [what a sight] they [the animal rights dudes] would be all over them.. Interesting article anyways.. Its a neat idea, and would make replacing CPU's a bit cheaper... Stan "Myconid" Brinkerhoff
One thing I hate about a lot of 56k modems is that they suck because they are "Winmodems" - an emulated modem in software
On the other hand, a lot of them are not. Just check the box man... My 56k isa modem [generic.. OEM.. no brandings] even has jumpers and dipswitches! Stan "Myconid" Brinkerhoff
A representative is quoted as saying that this is "unworkable". I'd go so far as to say impossible.
I dont think that it is impossible.. Isn't it the Chinese who do something simular to this already? I've heard that its pie to bypass their proxies though.. dunno
Sites that are possibly "offensive" can popup faster than an ISP, even using all their resources and time, can block it out.
What stops them from blocking entire domains, ip classes? *.geocities.com.. there go a lot of problems...
I feel for the Australia ISPs, they have their work cut out for them. As for the government, they will need to patrol full time simply to check if all "naughty" sites are blocked or not (which would be quite an interesting job). Seems to me, the Australian government has just created the biggest national waste of time and energy with one vote. Why do I have the feeling the US government will try to follow suit?
Kinda pathetic if you ask me.. obviously the people don't want this, how can they claim its a democracy.. and all with one vote..
Im assuming the proxy will have set domains etc.. that it will filter out.. what stops people from using something like WinGate or another proxy on a machine in say, the united states and getting stuff unfiltered?
Just a week or two ago, wasn't it announced that Micro$oft was starting up an Anti-Linux group? So they're Anti-Linux, yet developing software for it. Hence, users should be quite wary about this. They never cease to amaze me.
Gain the user base.. kill mozilla.. stop development for linux Stan "Myconid" Brinkerhoff
I dont see the problem with this being closed software, if it was open, people could learn how to send back falsified results, screwing them all up... Read the docs.. it tells ya a lot.. [then use yar common sense..]
My School's [Central Vermont] computer related courses:
Typing Applications [wow.. they use Microsoft Works! $10 a pop?] .... Thats it!
Next year theyre adding networking and programming [vb? i was like umm.. no] but theyre both 3 blocks a day for the entire year.. we have block scheduling, which is 4 blocks a day...
I still wonder what plans Microsoft had for it... Just a forwarder? A little more? A full blown linux distro? Hmm..
Anyways I hope VA puts a lot of work into Linux.com and makes it an aw[e]some resource for users. Maybe some user columns, newbie tutorials, etc.. etc... I hope its not all a big add for VA... Anyways,
This seems more like a hybred between php and c than anything else. It has a more c'ish language, but it also is a lot cleaner, like php.. I don't see where this "messaging" language would come in handy.. it just seems like a language that can do a multitude of tasks.. create webpages, and do file stuff.. A beginners language to C? hmm..
Grab a window and shake it really fast and sometimes you can get CPU usage up to 100% (especially Photoshop 5 with a large image loaded) Stan "Myconid" Brinkerhoff
