    I think the reason a lot of people look for degrees when filling jobs is that it is a good sign of the work ethic and desire to finish of the person. In the absence of an extensive job history it is all a lot of people have to go on to know if the person who may know the skills will actually show up and do the work.

    another good thing about gaming PCs is that there is no red ring of death. I read that the failure rate of the xbox 360 was close to 54%.

    vendor lock-in for this is the main reason I will never own a console. That and games are a lot more fun on a PC.

    I see this as a gating technology. As more get installed and you can see your electricity usage from the web, etc I bet there are more projects that take advantage of it or expand it to other areas of the house.

    in spite of the hardware problems, I have used vista and I hated it. Why do I have to re-learn everything because microsoft wants to try to sell more copies of an OS? It should make you life easier, not harder. And completely ignoring things like boot time, security, and backwards comparability (the things the Customer actually cares about), while bending over backwards to make sure DRM for hollywood is in the OS is really just shooting yourself in the foot.

    microsoft not understanding what Customers want to do with an OS is not the Customers fault. If there were minimum specs to run it then the OS should just refuse to install if the hardware does not meet them. Vista got a bad reputation, because it was bad.

    There was a huge push by vendors for consoles, but with the huge failure rates of consoles and string of vendor lock-in feature take-aways a lot of people are returning to the PC. Also, many just like that the gaming experience on a PC is better.

    It was not useless, he re-installed (and I bet if he had searched it was on the web somewhere how to remove the DRM). What if that had happened on a console? It would have become a brick.

    we can only hope. I don't dislike Oracle databases, but them also owning Mysql would be the kiss of death for Mysql no matter what they say otherwise.

    difference is that if microsoft ever stops supporting directx, a new one (that is probably better) will just take its place. There is no vendor lock-in.

    They went to the trouble to dog electric trolleys in the article, but why not just make the trolleys 40% lighter and add regenerative breaking? At least do an apples to apples comparison between the two. I am wondering since you need to store the energy if line loss or high voltage would be a problem with the ultracapacitor.

    With the huge failure rate (I read one time it was close to %54 red ring of death for the xbox), and the constant vendor lock-in feature removal I am glad I have stayed with the PC. I know quite a few others that have given up on consoles and gone back to the PC (although some of them were because the gaming on a PC was better)
