And I may add, it seems equally plausible that the 19 years old guy wasn't even aware he was talking with a minor. I am sure he could sue for another 30 millions...
I still hate MS for wasting the last 20 years in the IT field, however, the more I read about whet Bill makes with his fortune, I cannot really say he could do better. After all, from my point of view, he steals the dumbs and naive IT managers that opt for MS solution and give their money to labs that cure 3rd world diseases. He really didn't help the IT field, but well... he surely helps Africa. This is really odd, managing such an agressive and -let's admit it- evil company with one hand, while managing a Really Good Thing on the other. I just wonder how much of Melissa's spirit versus Bill's there is in the Bill & Melissa Gates Foundation
It sounds humorous, but I really feel like it is a patch applied to a flaw society : They ammassed billions that they spend to help people with less than 1$ a day of income. I am not sure about what I think on this whole issue. I am not sure I want to blame anyone on this. I am still giving a few hundred bucks a year to charity and use linux...
I may be nitpicking but I didn't read a single comment stating that women are unable to program. There are, in fact humorous comments about dating (missed the lesbian cunnilingus joke though) but in general I would say that most male developers do not consider the present situation as a good one and wonder (because they know there isn't a thing as genetical predisposition to computer science) why, oh why ?
And the people one finds in IT doesn't explain it all. There are more women in the Navy than in CS schools... I even think that despite their lack of women (or maybe because of it), IT departments tend to be the less sexists in most companies
Well, the measures of average temperature on earth is so biased toward warming that it would be dishonest to quote this in a scientif...uh political debate. Let's keep it civil.

Maybe so. If you speak to a taiwanese official, you angry China, fearing that you might recognize Taiwan as a political entity different from mainland China. The political correctness wants that you complain at Beijing that the chinese province of Taiwan is sending a lot of spam. Of course they can't do anyhting about it but don't want you to meet the people in charge there.
first, the GP is humorous, but I think you saw that and made a general (and somehow insightful) answer to a common reaction in the linux community.
I would like to point out over that Google Earth, as cool as it is, is a toy, or even a tool. If we are not happy with it being closed source, we can re-program it. If you want a system without closed source, I guess you just would have to not install Google Earth.
The real point of complaining about binary realeases is with device drivers, where the company gives a software for free, has no plan in selling it and yet, doesn't publish specs nor source.
Six month after the publication of very bad amendments to French DRM law proposal
These amendments were introduced mainly because of the fear that Apple would have to change its system to comply with the law. Lobbies have used this occasion to push a lot of "technical stuff" over old senators (I believe they are around 70 on average) effectively putting OSS at risk. You can't have both Apple iTune current system and a DRM-free country.
On a side note, the PM has no power right now and is not listened even by his own political party. The president is in the same situation, in fact, the country is without anyone at the commands. The lethargy should last until 2007, the next presidential election. Do not expect any debate on anything in the meantime, the last important law the PM tried to push brouht rioters in the streets, his current policy is to do "damage control" during the next 10 months.
In fact I believe they are very conscious of these facts and that they are ready to fight trial after trial if the government give them orders to hand over some data. I think they might consider every personal information as a bullet in their fight against privacy invasion. Sure, these datas are better in their hand than in some other's but still, I won't freely give them mine.
I egoistically think from my european point of view:-)
I am heartedly with you if you want to try and affect the US laws, but I, for one, would like to be some recent laws in France changed, even if it "costs" us the access to iTunes DRMed products
Well, I don't understand the fears there. What do you fear ? Some B-movie (or even blockbuster trilogy) "clone army" ? come on...
Eugenism maybe ? but today, eugenism is done by killing newborn instead of not giving them birth.
You know that this whole issue is brought mainly by people believing that there is something called a soul in human foetus, human beings, human corpses or Schiavo before she biologicaly dies and that can't be in any other living and non-living thing. If you begin to question their well established line of ethics, they fear you will make the whole society crumble (which is a logical consequence of progress)
And I may add, it seems equally plausible that the 19 years old guy wasn't even aware he was talking with a minor. I am sure he could sue for another 30 millions...
Silly idea, but...
Couldn't these broadcasts be public ? So we know who they spy...
then why the proprietray format ? I must have missed something...

Are really 2. and 3. free and legal ?
Disclaimer : this may be, I don't use iTunes nor iPods

Or there could be a national quota.

Sometimes, I wish someone would just slip some sort of tranquilizer in the water supply near Alberta...
You would need to tap into the caffeine sources as well

I guess they have a lot of P2P there too...

Yeah terrorism is the other strange fixation...
You are so right, Google would have no chance in the real world.
Linux is a student's project.
OSS is an utopia.

Apple should withdraw from Scandinavia anyway, it would be a major victory for anti-DRMs and make pulicity around this issue.
World RPS Society is nerdy enough for me

And Washington wonders why EU refused to force air companies to give their customers bank informations...

I swear I read at first the news as 'Medieval Privacy Laws...' damn associative memory
Give me my Slashdot back!
It was a joke! SCO didn't patent the old CSS!
Is it just me or do I hear this revolution tone more and more often ?
