But they also might be an excuse for game studios not to bother with a native Linux port.
I wish I had a real stat on developers who deciced not to do a native Linux version because of WineX. I know of a few but I'd consider them 'enlightened' developers and they endded up working with Transgaming. (moo3) As for the rest, I don't think WineX is even on their radar. I think they go with what they know. Most game developers learn DirectX.
There are not that many Linux gamers out there. Even Sierra, a well known publiser, recently compared Linux to Commodore 64 when it came to usership. That forum thread is now deleted but the link was at linuxgames.com.
The more games that come out for linux, the more likely a gamer on the fence about installing Linux will install Linux. As the number of Linux gamers grow, so will the demand for native binaries, hence more native binaries will be developed.
ANY game for Linux is a win for desktop linux and a win for linux gamers.
I disagree. If anything, Linux users don't buy much software because there are not that many linux users compared the Windows users. Linux users are normally a cut above the average user and I'm sure they know the difference between free and commercial software.
Its not that we want everything for free, but there are just not that many Linux gamers out there and those that are gamers are booting into their Win2000 partition to game.
Check out all the game warez news groups. You'll see thousands of windows games for free. Checkout alt.binaries.linux.warez, you'll see nothing.
Well, my question is if I should boycott their new company, as well as Blizzard? Are these guys supportive on the Blizzard/Vivendi war on open source software or are they just on the side lines? I would like to know.
I haven't even thought about buying a Blizzard game since the Bnetd saga.
Video games, CDs, movies, etc should come with some kind of like...serial number or offical looking slip of paper saying you have bought a license. I've lost more cds and carts than I have mp3s and roms. Most of the mp3s I have are from CDs I lost. Of course, I could never prove I did by "Iron Maiden - Live after Death" in 6th grade so I could technically be in big trouble for owning the mp3s.
Are you an idiot? All they have to do is sign a binary to run on the hardware. There is no source code or anything involved in that, no giving away of trade secrets.
Hint: aquire clue before posting.
Why do open source products have to name their products as close as possible to the product from which they are ripping all their ideas off?
It was a trend sometime back but has sort of died out. Its where there are so many email clients named after trees.
Also..I hardly think at this point, you can't rip off' a 2d RTS game where dudes mine gold and chop trees.
I haven't bought a Blizzard game since the bnetd thing and I never will. Not only that, I put up signs and information at a local LAN gaming place and I know Blizzard lost about 30 sales from that.
Cool. Give me a billion dollars and I can stop them.
I wish people on Slashdot would stop complaining and do something. We are just as bad, if not worse, than the massses. At least the masses have no clue, thats their excuse. We have a clue but we're just lazy.

It already runs under Linux. The beta testing is happening now. If you pre-order the game you automatically get to be a beta tester.
If you do pre-order, make sure to order from TuxGames so the sale counts as a linux sale.

The US Gov is not going to step into this battle. If congressman no get paid to help, congressman no help.
Don't you have to actually HAVE a ethical AI before you can patent it? Should I just patent the software for a holodeck now?
Where do they come up with the number $150,000 anyway? I can see the meeting now.
Well, How much do we sue for?
Hold on! Somethings coming out of my ass right now!....squeeze....One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars!!!
applause from room

Because the e-machine doesn't fit in the stereo component cabinet and come with 3d hardware.

For $490 mil, anyone could have came up with a solution.
Yeah, lets shelter them so much that when they get into the real world they become like every other middle class american idiot out there.
yay! Free music for everyone!!

Actually. I think its just you.
"My neck! My Back! My neck and my back!"
what about? Perl: print $a+$b; PHP: print $a+$b; C printf("%i",a+b); Those don't look too tough to me.
When people were coding qbasic, the CDROM did not exist. They are just trying to give you a more accurate feel for the language.
No offense but Caldera Linux was a poor distro at best and thats why it got made fun of all the time.

Where is McBride getting this weed he's smokin? That must the be the b0mb shit. I'd like to license some of that.
I don't go any place where people still use the phrase 'them city slickers'.
