>> Facebook advertisements linked to Russia mainly focused on the states of Michigan and Wisconsin
It was "specifically" (as in "some") rather than "mainly" according to TFA: http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/03/politics/russian-facebook-ads-michigan-wisconsin/index.html?sr=twCNN100317russian-facebook-ads-michigan-wisconsin0933PMStory
Wasn't most political advertising aimed at the battleground states? Did those Facebook ads somehow keep someone from campaigning there?
>> What is the worst "you can't do" or "you must do" that you've been subjected to in a security review?
Anything the client didn't pay for. (Threats to suspend a very large support payment count as payment, however.) Likewise, whenever a customer wanted to pay extra for an MFA, SSO or other integration, we were all ears.
I still use my headphone jack in my car when listening to free digital music streams. That way, I can flip to something else on the radio during the free stream commercials and flip back later without the Bluetooth sync time or the music app stopping the commercial play. (I just hit "Aux" after the commercials sdhould have finished and the free stream is playing again.)
The Nobel prizes awarded for science always seem to make sense. The literature ones most of the time too. It's the peace prizes (e.g., Obama in first year as president...whaaa?) that often leave people shaking their heads.
>> how embarrassing if we thought google *had* created it
If I was "David Pierce writing for Wired", I'd certainly be embarrassed. With a UID below mine, you should also remember the days when Slashdot was still about tech.
BOUGHT YouTube. FTFY. You'd probably also find that a lot of Google gadget expertise (including talent) was purchased from elsewhere if you got inside the Googleplex...
>> Apple's Latest Products Get Rare Mixed-Bag Reviews
I'm sure some marketing heads will soon roll. Personallzed "interviews" with influencial tech reporters' favorite cosplayers need to scheduled and happy-ending-completed AT LEAST three weeks in advance of the product releases, people!
....gives a shit. And more to the point, why is Nvidia farting around with TV when it could just make bank pumping out (and overcharging for) "cryptocurrency-optimized" video cards?
When/where does anyone get fed on a domestic flight in 2017? Or is this a rehash of a story from the bronze age of flight (pre-9/11) when you stroll down concourses without tickets and could safely make your flight if you were there an hour early.
>> Oracle (will) make higher-level cloud services such as databases and analytics cheaper than AWS's.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I'm crying - can I have a glass of water? Is there really anyone left in IT who still believes that Oracle is good for their company's bottom line?
More seriously, it's not Oracle that Amazon needs to worry about - it's Google's cloud services. My company's already switching almost every currently Amazon-based app it can find to GCP. GCP tech is kind of AWS 2.0 (since they had the opportunity to learn from the "first mover" - think how Microsoft learned from Novell back in the day) and Google's currently trying to buy up the enterprise market with lowball pricing.
The current mayor of Washington DC is "Bowser"? After Marion Barry, I don't think anyone is sure whether the leaders of the city or the voters are kidding anymore.

>> You can maybe argue that literature has been overly focused on ...Swedish literature to the exclusion of others...
I tried to get into Swedish lit but I just couldn't get past the fact that every tenth word started with "B" and rhymed with "pork".

No. Now where's my $1m for the study?

If you think "code is hard", then maybe SlashDot isn't the right site for you.
Donate you noise
Sorry Intel, the new AMD procs offer great performance for the money. No reason to go Intel for at least a generation.
Or maybe no.
Yes.
Is there where I get to derail the discussion by using the term "grumpy voters" in a parallel context?

Maybe we can call it "American Telephone" or just use a cute ringing emoji symbol and call it "American Bell"
As usual, TFA is useless. Why didn't the cops get a warrant in this case?
...and we'll probably let you run things for a while again.

Because it's a competing phone company. (Closed - Solved)
