  5. Eye of the beholder on 26 Common Climate Myths Debunked · · Score: 1
If you are looking for climate change; you will find it. If you are looking for the contrary; you will find it.

    Quote from the movie PI:

Hold on. You have to slow down. You're losing it. You have to take a breath. Listen to yourself. You're connecting a computer bug I had with a computer bug you might have had and some religious hogwash. You want to find the number 216 in the world, you will be able to find it everywhere. 216 steps from a mere street corner to your front door. 216 seconds you spend riding on the elevator. When your mind becomes obsessed with anything, you will filter everything else out and find that thing everywhere.

  10. Nothing to do with Linux on Hilf Claims Free Software Movement Dead · · Score: 1

Hilf said that the Linux phenomenon had nothing to do with Linux, but rather it had a lot to do with Apache, MySQL and PHP. It was those applications which pulled Linux up with it, the "Visual Basic of open source." Yeah, and Microsoft had it's breakthrough because they bought an IBM compatible OS, made the right deals and all games/apps were written for MS/DOS because of monopoly and trust in the already established Intel/IBM. It had nothing to do with MS/DOS per se. It was an arbitrary OS at the right place, at the right time.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QDOS

But I think the gain of Linux has more to do with quality in comparison to MS/DOS and Windows.
  11. Thank you Microsoft. on Microsoft Says Free Software Violates 235 Patents · · Score: 1

So if free software voilates patents, Microsoft has to ask Windows users to pay for using free software on their OS too.

I'm happy to see people's favourite free messenger or browser becoming non-free. I mean; it will be easier for Microsoft to monitor software usage on Windows machines; they must be charged first.

If they succeed, people will become aware of the sickness that is Microsoft.

  13. Good on No Wine for Dell Ubuntu Users, Says Shuttleworth · · Score: 5, Interesting

I haven't installed MS software on my computer for about seven years now. People ask me if I got MS Office working on it; it is the first thing they try when they install linux.

    "I haven't tried it."

    People find that awkward.

Also people often say that 'app X does not work the same as commercial product X'.

Sure, intercompatability is pushed from the open side because of demand. But ...

    LINUX IS NOT WINDOWS!

People find that hard to understand.

I think this step by DELL + Ubuntu is a step in the right direction of bringing that understanding.

  16. Re:Finally on Last.fm Plans Custom Music Video Channels · · Score: 1

There is only a minor group that sits behind their TV and watches these clips all day long.

It's a safe bet because if suddenly a channel desides to have 'only' 40% of the clips gangster/nude then they won't attract a new group but their current audience looks for a different channel which better matches their 'lifestyle' they want.

  17. Finally on Last.fm Plans Custom Music Video Channels · · Score: 4, Insightful

Hope this will for me block the overkill of gangsters/pimps with half-naked ladies that 80% of the MTV/TMF clips show the last couple of years.

Maybe the music channels on TV will discover that this is NOT what most people like too see.
