  2. Astrological significance? on Hubble Photo of Sedna Suprises Astronomers · · Score: 2, Interesting

Are astrologers calling Sedna a "planet" or an "asteroid" - ? Since the 50's they've been waiting to ease the burden on Mercury and Venus, who currently have to rule two signs at once (Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, Venus rules Taurus and Libra.) I've been reading an astrological course book from 1952, and they were absolutely convinced, since they'd just found Pluto, that there would be at least 2 more planets behind it, one to rule Gemini and one to rule Taurus. (Personally, I think new planets should take over for Virgo and Libra, but that's my modern opinion.)

Offtopic? Only if you've never read a horoscope.

An "African-American" is a person of African origin living in America. Not all African-Americans are black, and not all blacks are African. Certainly it would be a strange coincidence if this black person in Dublin was visiting from America, and also happened to be originally from Africa.

The ills you describe revolve around a LACK of sex education. You can't expect to have psuedo-smut on TV and kids not go play doctor. But some uptight parents can't bear the thought of their kids being told how to use a condom by their gym teacher, so instead of safe sex you have teen pregnancies. They can join the ROTC and learn how to clean a gun, but they aren't allowed to learn what the word "cunnilingus" means. It is very unbalanced, that was my point.

Um, no, 9/11 was the end result of a looooong tradition of bullying. Most USians don't like to hear this, but our government actually does BAD things once in a while, and 9/11 was one group's way of saying "enough's enough and we've had too damn much!" Not siding with them, mind you, just trying to get you to see that fighting violence with more violence begets...more violence. Bottom line, we can do it because we have the power and the might. We don't need to play well with others, others need to play well with us.

Just curious, where do you propose that will leave us as a citizen of the planet? Everyone will fear us and do what we say? Do we want to bully everyone just because we believe we're right, and everyone else is 3rd world? Personally I'd rather have people "play nice" with us out of respect and admiration, rather than fear.

We (the public) may be a little numb, but it still hurts us.

I would argue that you overestimate the majority, and underestimate the minority. I think most sheeple still do look up to Bush, and simply assume that America MUST be right to do what it's doing, because well, we're America. (Look at all the US flag stickers on all the cars around you...) But I think those of the public who are still thinking, reading, researching and really paying attention are hurt WAY more than any numbness could negate.

I do, however, agree about the role models. I have no doubt that there is a Benjamin Franklin, a Jimmy Hendrix, and a Marie Curie among us, but the climate is very inhospitable to them right now. It's impossible to rise to any sort of power or recognition unless the government tells the media conglomerates to LET you (for whatever reasons they have). Real radical thinkers and revolutionaries are in hibernation, and all we have to look up to are basketball rapists and Vin freaking Diesel.
