In all seriousness, I prefer information from scientists, intellectuals, and elitists, over uneducated lay people. I guess I, too, am an elitist snob for saying so.
I think that is part of the definition of an elitist. Thats why i don't think that is a good label to put on people. It's anti intellectual mud slinging in my opinion.
Before you go claiming "tinfoil hat science" I would look at the universities where those climatologist teach. With Berkley, Stanford, and any other liberal biased university behind their name, you can bet on their position.
I find it interesting that anytime the facts don't line up with someone's values they say there is a "liberal bias" going on. That is a classic ad hominem attack. It's literally a textbook example of one, but I'm sure that textbook must be biased.
Maybe rational people and the apparent facts of the world have a liberal bias. Or perhaps the forces of unreason in the world have seen a polarized society and chose to exploit one side to support their arguments. Most of the time if someone is greedy and they need public support for themselves all the need to do is claim this is a political issue and generally poor conservatives will support them.
Individual climate scientists might not take every piece of info into account but that is the beauty of science. As a group scientists move towards the truth because many people are working on parts at once. Just because you can't get 1 person to enter a debate who knows every single part of the story and convince the world does not mean climate change is wrong. Just because you can corner a few scientists and find holes in their specific knowledge does not mean they are on the wrong path.
Does it refuse to comply with DMCA takedown orders?
Yes. It also refused to comply with any takedown notice according to any law. The way they dont get shut down is because they are hosted in many different jurisdictions. If they are breaking a law in an area they simply leave that area. They do often however break the law before they leave. This means they are blatantly illegal in many situations.
There is not a distinction to be made between who uploads and who hosts the data in this situation. This is because wikileaks never denies to know what people are uploading. They admit that it is often illegal for both the uploader and the hoster. They accept this illegality without shifting blame to the leakers. They consider those that leak the data to be heros.
I have friends who are avid gamers but actually end up pirating the games they buy because it's too difficult to deal with the copy protection crap.
FYI there is a differance between playing a game you didn't pay for and cracking the copy protection on a game you did pay for. Both are technically illegal but 1 is far more moral than the other in most people's eyes.
Yes and it wont be shut down again in the same way. They learned a lot from that shutdown. They are pretty paranoid about hosting in different jurisdictions and coming up with technical ways to get around any shutdown.
Thats called growing up. Kudos to anyone who still has their friends around to play DnD but most people just dont. Not many people have a group of friends around where they can meet up all at the same time anymore. I still hang out with my old friends but usually not at the same time of day anymore.
I think there was an article on slashdot a while ago that discussed how engineering degrees are becoming more expensive. The university justifies this because the end careers often pay more but it is squeezing out the poor students from obtaining degrees that take them into a good career. It abandons poor students to pay less and receive less.
Actually there is no defense against a brutal cop. You are still breaking the law if you resist a cop whos breaking the law against you. You never have a legal right to resist a cop. You do however have a birthright to resist but that doesn't mean the courts wont throw your ass in jail.
So are teachers making more money to end purpose of a private school system or just a side benefit to your plan? As it is now teachers are over worked and under payed without someone breathing down their neck demanding they become more efficient.
The main problem with school as business i see is like this. A business run school is not actually out to provide a good product, there just need good reviews. It is more important to them that they present an appearance of doing well than actually doing well. This is a major problem. Already if you look at many private companies that teach someone to someone such a stutors they know very well that you don't need to get across lots of knowledge as long as the person FEELS like they are learning. As long as people FEEL they are learning they will continue paying.
If corporations were trustworthy they wouldn't have a problem.
Of course they are trustworthy. You can trust that they will go after profits as is their responsibility as required by law. The corporation is legally accountable to their stockholders who demand more money. You can trust that they will be after that.
The only thing you cant trust is your law makers. I dont blame corporations for trying to lie within the laws as well as get laws in their favor. That is their explicit responsibility in the world to do so. I blame the politicians who let it all happen. Politicians have a responsibility to look out for the people. They are the ones to blame because they are not living up to their end of the social agreement. They need to reign in corporations a bit.
The struggle between corporations and consumers is natural and right as long as it doesn't get out of hand like it appears to be sometimes.
For a while there the republicans hadn't selected McCain yet but we still considered him the garunteed candidate. Its the same reason Ron Paul never had a chance really. He got written off by the media before when he still had a chance.
I dont know why people feel bad about being a human paperweight. There is something to be said about working hard but this does not apply here. The company never was and should never be your friend. You are there to do a job and make money. They are there to pay you to do a job. They decided that they dont want the work out of you but still are willing to pay you. It is their problem, not yours.
Sit around and as the parent said be basically on call if they need you but otherwise dont feel obligated to help them when they dont want your help.
Read slashdot, pick your nose, collect your check; is there anything else to do? You are in a business agreement with them, not a friendship. Remember that you can get along and be friendly but business is the nature of your relationship.
I am believing more and more that nothing is right or wrong. Why is murder illegal and "wrong" because it is bad for society if it not prevented. That is really why anything is illegal. At some point someone convinced our legislators that it is bad for society. So sure murder, theft, violence are all bad for society and therefore "wrong". People get into splitting hairs about what is "right" and what is "wrong" before they ask the simple question of if it is bad for society.
So is downloading music "wrong"? How can it be wrong? It is not in the best interest of a couple of corporations that have vastly overpriced their product for years but i don't see any problem in society if every downloaded music today.
The only things resembling scientific studies that I can find by Googling seem to indicate that it behaves exactly like sugar. Maybe you can direct me elsewhere, but all I can find are people making this unsupported claim without any credible study that they can point to.
I explained right after i said refined sugar is not great for you. Refined sugar does not contain micronutrients. If you are going to eat sugar it should be from a source like fruit. If you want to sweeten something simply add fruit. Table sugar (sucrose) is not the only sugar that is empty. You are right that honey is not a whole lot better but really the answer is no added sweetener is going to contain many nutrients.
It sounds pretty solid, but look at what happens to sugar (sucrose) IMMEDIATELY after ingestion... it breaks into about 50% fructose and 50% glucose... almost exactly what "high fructose" corn syrup consists of. This makes the aforementioned studies make a LOT of sense and explains the nearly identical effect on blood glucose.
There are 3 main grades of HFCS that are 90%, 55%, and 45% fructose. There is also as you said agave syrup that is mostly frustose and worst of them all crystalline fructose which is 99.5% fructose minimum and is more common now. Many "health food" drinks contain crystalline fructose because of the bad rep HFCS has.
How is a new distro news? This is basically just an announcement by someone who wants attention to another project that will split the work of developers. Why again do we need another distro and packaging system?
Although refined sugar is not good for you corn syrup is definetly worse. Refined sugar is basically empty calories. It takes a part of your daily calory intake without providing any micronutrients like vitamins and minerals. It then puts more importance on the rest of your diet to get all the nutrients you need.
Read online about the connection between obesity and fructose. One of the big reasons why i don't like anything with high fructose corn syrup or crystalline fructose (in stuff like vitamin water) is that it does not contribute to being of satiety after eating. So when you consume calories in the form of fructose your body does not get the proper feelings of fullness afterwards. This leads to overeating.
So really if you have to sweeten something perhaps use honey. Honey contains anti oxidants.
Your advice is great about whole grains and moderating everything is good. Don't feel too guilty however about some animals fats in your diet. Of course you should keep it low but if you google "vegan health issues" you will find a lot of vegans suffer when they cut animal fats out without carefully replacing them with vegetable sources. A little saturated fat and cholesterol is good for you. Don't be afraid to eat some fatty cheese, of course in moderation.
Then you are in luck. I think everyone needs a health food guru just like i am sure you are the computer guru to some. Everyone here on slashdot can appreciate that i'm sure.
What if they considered licensing the songs out to users in that way and decided against it? What if they calculated it out and found it is not a good business decision? Should the government then force them to distribute their media in a way that harms their business?
Oh wow nobody can pick up the sarcasm eh? I figured by saying "If you are not guilty you have nothing to hide" people would pick up the ridiculousness of having to check in every 10 days. Of course the military should be able to play games, thats why i mentioned (sarcastically) that they need to be able to relax.
It's really too bad that EA can't see how rediculous an idea this was untill the military protests it. I supose though that is a good tactic becuase who can not support troops oversees? It just depresses me that if it was not for military gamers this might not have happened. Civilian gamers are just too easy to push around i guess.
Chief among the voices in opposition to this measure were members of the armed forces, who pointed out that they could not rely on having an internet connection every ten days.'"
I call BS. There is no reason why anyone would want to not check in. If you are not guilty you have nothing to hide. We dont need to military to be able to relax anyway...

Lunch was egg salad sandwiches, fusilli pasta with tomatoes and carrots, and a piece of cake.
Egg Salad often contains corn syrup. If you didn't make it yourself it probably did. Also the cake may have been sweetened with corn syrup.
Letters written by big historical figures like Einstein provide important insights into their thinking that other forms of communication seem to lack.

That's a class B IP range which i believe would make about 65,000 more possible defendants.
