I turn pictures off most of the time (and have animated gifs turned off all the time) so those banner ads (those that I see) don't bother me at all now! Also drastically speeds up my connection on a 56k modem too.
NASA already make sure any craft/ probe going to another planet/ moon contains no microbes - to avoid contamination & so that they get no false readings when they're searching for life.
Throughout the first review (as most people did I'm sure) I thought it was about a software driver for a mouse (and I wondered how they were going to make money out of it)! As to a mouse shaped like a golf driver - well I'm surprised anyone would buy that - but then again a lot of people buy novelty mouse mats too.
It's about time some sense was brought to this whole thing. But as there are so many people indulging in this kind of copyright theft - are the courts really going to sue them all - I don't think so!
The problem is that when it comes to the marketing literature they want short snappy benchmarks - putting benchmarks from ten different common applications or tests would only serve to confuse the average customer. They just want to put a reason why you should buy our Brand X instead of Brand Y or Z in a succint a way as possible.
Or for direct links to them try here:
Ogg Vorbis
Ogg Vorbis is acoustically better than MP3 and isn't encumbered by similar software patents. See www.vorbis.com for players for most operating systems. These files at 16bit mono tracks encoded at a 32Kb bitrate (should be suitable for modems).
AIFF
The AIFFs have been provided for those who wish to re-encode them. They are 32kHz stereo tracks, left track auditorium and background microphone, right track stage and roving microphones.
NB. They are *HUGE* and you'll need gzip to uncompress them.
In related news I saw a story about a proposed European satellite network rival to GPS with accuracies of 1m - does anyone know what the current accuracy of GPS is at the moment?
Well we all need page hits! Why do you think I have a hyperlink in my signature block - but going back on topic - any robot that far away would have to have virtual autonomy over its control because of the time delay involved in controlling it from Earth. The reason HAM radio can communicate on such low power is because in that waveband there is hardly any background noise to overcome.
It's not to do with space exploration it's to do with answering the question, "Are we alone in the universe?" - and the question that stems from that which is "If we aren't alone, how common/ widespread is life?"
Well as far as I'm concerned if anyone wants to read my e-mail they can - it never contains anything of any use to them because I know it's as secure as a postcard.
Using secure websites to order online doesn't use PGP & they *certainly* don't e-mail you your credit card details.
As to e-mailing my bank account information - I never have and I never will because they'll never need it because it's *my* bank information - not theirs!
How many of us actually have secrets to hide that we go to the bother of encrypting them with PGP any more though? I have only ever sent a few PGP e-mails before I figured it was too fiddly and time consuming to bother with.
Grr - I thought my job was boring and then I found out about the people who reassemble shredded paper all day! Makes me think of the Penguin out of that Batman film where he sticks all the shredded paper together with selotape to use for blackmail.
All I've heard in reference to Nigeria is the bank account fraud - where some foreign dictactor wants to put millions in your bank account for a short period - you'll get some money from it -but the victims end up with their bank accounts drained of funds instead.
" is even a place to report your victim "experiences" so they can be published. " - as long as they don't also publish the e-mail address of the people writing about them. As to spam from Nigeria - I've never had any (that I know of) - how about everyone else?
I think the problem is more along the lines of - how many people will actually *pay* to download what they can get (admittedly with more difficulty these days) for free. IMHO this'll lead to most of these websites going belly up.
If it'll put people off stealing the phones it's worth it - mind you I'm sure it wouldn't be long before someone would find a way round it - and what would you do when you sold the phone?

I meant retail in the UK (as opposed to import) - sorry I didn't make that clear.
Anyone know how much it's going to cost?

slanderous - but probably true.
This includes a 2-disc version on August 6th - which will promptly be put on the internet the same day and downloaded by millions. :o)

Seems a bad idea to name anything Enterprise - after all wasn't that the ship were things were always going wrong & blowing up?
No, you Zope - Zope isn't a content management system! D'uh! :o)
But would people want to run MSOffice on Wine when they have so many Open Source alternatives?
