Why are you subsidising the whole cost of the installation?

If all the people in your building want to get wireless, they should chip in, shouldn't they?

On the techical part, I don't know, but I think $7000 should be MORE than enough to get the whole thing running in all the building.

Again, it's none of my business, but it is my personal suggestion not to be so eager in spending so much money like that. Unless you REALLy want to play with those guys. Who's going to pay for the fixed internet connection fees later?

  2. Not only competition... on Europe Joins Race To Send Humans To Mars · · Score: 1

And where the hell are my flying cars?!?!

The fact is, we can say and say and say, but until someone or something has enough competition, we will never actually do it.

Competition will come naturally when there is monetary profit or some nationalistic interest (or presidential reelection pursuit). I don't think there are any other incentives to go to the Moon or Mars right now.

Many people didn't see it coming, but it seems that China is, directly or indirectly, going to give a great push to space exploration.

Isn't it risky to release this beast and let it proliferate and perhaps cross-breed with other species? What are the long-term consequences of doing this?

If his space strategy parallels his military strategy, then we're all in trouble...

About the Hubble, IIRC, the "official" decision to abandon it is more because of the reduced shuttle fleet (not worth risking the few shuttles left) and the upcoming better space telescope. The latest Bush space plan has little to do with the Hubble... or that's what they say.

I completely support space exploration, but I think that Bush's deadline is more about his reelection than about cosmic adventures. He's just trying to be a second JFK and that's laughable.

From my point of view, space exploration should be done carefully and I don't see in the immediate future the need of a manned mission to Mars. In the short term, it is dangerous, too costly and unnecesary. We should continue with unmanned missions for quite a while.

Setting these deadlines is just a proof of the political motives behind his speech.
