Now, if you take your analogy and say "There'll ALWAYS be a need for soldiers to (insert useless/antiquated speciality here)" THEN your argument falls apart.

Actually, it doesn't... your analogy is just as bad as his was. Look at the Gulf War (hundreds of thousands of troops) vs. the Afghan war (a couple thousand). The trend is less soldiers, more technology

Wrong-o, you just proved my argument even more. Do you think that technology built or operated itself? So, people were still needed, just for a different job.

Bad analogy - we're not talking about props, but people Now, if you take your analogy, and say "There'll ALWAYS be a need for soldiers in a modern army", your argument falls down. Yes, horses have gone away, but the soldiers who rode them didn't. They just use tanks now, instead

    Bad Analogy

We're not talking about people we're talking about specialized people.

Yes, there are still people but they don't carry out the same roles.

I'm a PhD student at University of Michigan (first year). I appreciate your correction. I am in the process of submitting my second paper to a peer reviewed journal. While not directly experiencing it myself, I was taught that often scientists would repeat experiments that they found suspicious. That is dissapointing that such large claims would not be retested...there's nothing I hate more than reading a paper and seeing "Data not shown".

I am a peer-reviewed published scientist, and they do repeat experiments. And if you happen to get your hands on a scientific journal you can note the difference in times between submitted date and published date. They are more often than not 4-8 months different.

Isn't Nature a peer-reviewed journal? That usually means that a number of other scientists have received the information prior to printing and have determined it is authentic information. Anything that is skeptical is usually performed (read retested) by the reviewing scientists. Now, I admit that some papers do get by without a proper amount of review because the journal wants to be first to press, however I think better of Nature than that. (I'm such a sucker)

That is ridiculous....do the people who make Microwave Ovens design them so you can't insert aluminum foil? Do car manufacturers design gas inlets that do not allow water (if the user tries to put it in?).

IOW, people have the right to their own stupidity. If I don't fill my gas tank, it is not the fault of the car company that my car stops. It is my own stupidity. If I use my CD ROM tray as a cup holder and it breaks off, it is not the fault of the CD ROM manufacturer, but my own STUPID fault. And that is luckily my right. My right to Stupidity. If you stick regular AA batteries inside a battery charger....the results are hazardous. If you drive down a one way street the wrong way, that is hazardous and illegal. But the regular AA batteries fit the charger and your normal car can drive the wrong way down a one way street.

Walmart still carries the the magazine/cd as long as it fits their standard. Just like if I go to the local movie theater I can choose between G-PG-PG13-R but usually nothing higher. Actually, you're completely wrong about the "humans and dinosaurs living at the same time". A growing and vocal group of scientists believe that birds (Aves) are part of the class Dinosauria. Read the book "Dinosaur Heresy's" for more information.

One short come, but not really, of science is that nothing is ever proven. A Hypothesis is put forth, and then either you find supporting evidence or you find contrary evidence which would therefore disprove your hypothesis. So, anyone who has written "Science has proven" obviously has a poor understanding of science.
