You can play HL2 in offline mode as much as you want after you've activated it.
Someone on the SteamWatch forums apparently set their system clock a year forward and they wound up forced to re-authenticate with Steam... so that might not be true.
Now someone who spills coffee on the boards by accident isn't comitting a felony, they are making a mistake. The most they could be charged with is manslaghuter for gross neglience (since there is no situation where liquids should be anywhere near the equipment) however in all likelyhood they'd not be charged, just fired by the company and sued by the victim's family.
If the cops accidentially raid the wrong building, it's a mistake, not a felony.
Hello Slashdot. We didn't even notice you, what with the fourty megabyte Apple.com/Trailers files we host for thousands of people, not to mention hosting most of the largest sites on the 'Net.

Uh, no, it shouldn't. A 60 mile cable would fall right back to earth - the cable has to be twice the length of geosynchronous orbit (30,000 miles or so) to stay up.
Ah, but the Internet Archive makes new copies of the same site when they're updated. Frequently updated sites may have 20+ different versions of themselves archived.

Insightful? Bullshit.
If they can go to Google for that, they could just as easily go to Yahoo!, Hotmail, or your local ISP and have 'em scan everything for those same things. Hell, they'd probably even provide and install the scanning software themselves.
I'm fairly certain the character Syndrome was modeled (at least appearancewise) after Heat Miser, from the classic "The Year Without A Santa Claus" claymation movie. Pretty amusing when you notice it...

"Stewart avoided a loss of about $51,000 by selling nearly 4,000 shares of ImClone stock on Dec. 27, 2001, rather than the next trading day, when the stock tumbled after regulators rejected the company's application for a key cancer drug."
Dude, Martha Stewart made like $50,000, and then watched her company shares sink $50,000,000 in the ensuing media circus. Hardly defrauding thousands of employees like Lay & Co...
I suppose the question is what's better - good health care for all, or spectacular health care for those who can pay and no health care for those who can't.
My fiance had foot surgery in Australia on a trip there this summer - $146 Australian for two hours of surgery. None of the waiting lines in all the horror stories about socialized health care, perfectly competent doctors, etc.
Sure, the Mayo Clinic draws people from all over the world, but the average American hospital is no better or worse than the average Western European or Australian one.
Surprisingly Paul Begala kept his trap shut for the most part and took the beating from Jon Stewart.
I put it down to him thinking "this guy's a liberal hack like me, he's only trying to pretend to be fair"...
On a side note I thought John Kerry's recent appearances on Jon Stewart, David Letterman and Regis and Kelly were pathetic attempts to try to connect with average citizens and prove that he's not just a robot. Sorry John, you're still a robot and you just made an ass of yourself on these shows.
I'd have to say the debates sank the "ZOMG KERRY == ROBOT!" absurdity.
Yes, Stewart only runs a comedy show, but if he is so serious about the media asking the candidates real questions, why did he make his Kerry interview so lame and softballish?
Probably because it's meant to be a funny show, not a show where the interviewee hems and haws and ultimately doesn't answer the question. That's boring enough in the political debates, it'd be the death of a funny show.
Softball questions mean amusing answers and banter, which is what The Daily Show is at least partially about.

not only that, I think this is the third time it has been featured on the front page... what do you call that?
SUPAH-DUPE!
Already covered in the post.

I'm a pro-choice anti-death penalty liberal, but even I have no problems with this concept.
Murder is wrong. Capital punishment is not murder (as murder is unlawful killing) and thus is not necessarily wrong.

I Love Bees developed the Halo plotline, and was a pretty involved project, wasn't it? Telephones ringing at GPS coordinates and whatnot?
Things in the mainstream are overdone... I gave then up a long time ago when they became mainstream, because everyone and thier brother put them out.
So, why're you on a website?
Everyone and their brother (and their brother's hamster, and its intestinal bacteria) has put them out...
Same way the Palestinians do currently - with blood.
SpaceShipOne cost $20 mil, and they won $10 mil.
Your estimate on this is $100 mil, and the prize is $50 mil.
Get half your money back both times.
As for the timespan, didn't Rutan start just a few years back? Plus, that initial work is done, it makes for something of a stepping off point.
The end of Middle East conflict? In your dreams...
When the Arab nations realize they can't eat sand and can't afford to import food because their oil is worthless, there'll be hell to pay.

It was a nasty break of the foot, so painful but not life threatening.
I'm actually an Australian who has lived in the US for the last 13 years, so I've seen some of both.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds fault with Firefox rendering of slashdot.org.
Why not find fault with Slashdot's HTML, which is error-ridden HTML 3.2 code?
There's a reason they block validator.w3.org...
He's been nice in interviews with republicans too, and he even was angry at his audience when they didn't pay proper respect to the republican guest.
I remember being impressed by that - something along the lines of "Don't boo. DON'T BOO! Show him the respect you'd show any other guest."
