It's not like with IE where you can just start using Safari and not lose anything. VLC and MPlayerOSX aren't exactly mainstream, easy to use or do they integrate well with Safari or other browsers. Before killing it, maybe they could update its codec support. It's not like with IE, people still use the damn thing!

NeXTStep and OpenStep didn't have widgets, they had Dockapps. Apple tried to do the same thing with OS X in the begining and called them Docklets. They never pushed it, and very few developers actually created them, but they were spitting images of Dockapps. Today, OS X still has Docklets built into the system. I can think of the apps name (lack of PB ATM) but it's the app that monitors system activity. You can change the preferences so that when in the dock, the icon appears as a Docklet.
Anyway, Konfabulator and Dashboard are more than distant cousins and neither are based on Dockapps. My question is, when is the DoJ going to crack down on Apple for bundling apps that compete with and ultimately destroy 3rd party apps such as Watson and the Caffeine Suite.
Your ignorance amazes me. He's doesn't whine, other than the fact he strains to talk due to his paralysis.
I think though what you've done is confused whining with his determination to suggest the impossible. He has more hope and aspiration in one breath than you'll ever have in a lifetime.
His vision is sincere, to walk again, and he's just the catalyst to make that happen for not only himself, but millions of others who are stricken by debilitating accidents.

Matt: And then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a troll like silhouette, clasping what appeared to be a gold ring, proclaiming "my precious" over and over to himself! It was at that moment Josh and I knew we were fucked and the Earth stood not a chance for survival.
Well, considering the exchange rate is constantly changing, I guess the actual cost in USD would be determined by what time they got a exchange quote and from what bank or institution. Seeing as they aren't more than $10 off from eachother, your troll is less than logical or amusing.
There's a fine line between sub-notebook and PDA. While on the inside, a sub-notebook such as this one would woop on any PDA at the moment, what more is it really going to do for you over lets say an iPAQ for $1000 less. Are you really going to want to type a lot of emails on that tiny frustrating keyboard or atleast emails of any greater length than you tap out on your iPAQ? A P3 800 is nice but are you really going to be playing Quake on it or typing that research paper in Office XP? Also surfing websites on that tiny screen at insane resolutions would get old real fast. The 30GB storage is nice and I think is one thing PDAs need to address in the near future but other than that, I don't see the cost benefit. Perhaps I just don't have the patience for expensive impractical toys.
A Pismo G4 500 for $299 doesn't sound all that bad. Considering many of us spent over $4000 for the laptop new, this is quite a steal to extend the life of that little investment. I think many would also agree, they'd rather be lugging one of these around with them rather than the oh so fragile Titanium PowerBook. While the other upgrades are rather pricey, this is still tremendous news for Cube owners. I'm guessing they will probably be their biggest customers. Imagine a 1GHz machine in such a small enclosure! *drool* In anycase, re-release the GeForce2 and Radeon cards for the Cube and I'll be back in business!
What about all the Mac and Linux users that pre-ordered the title expecting it to be a multi-platform release as promised? Not that we can't likely cancel our orders and get our money back, but it really sucks having to go through all the hassle and disapointment. Now that the Mac version has been pushed off onto another publisher, there is certainly no hope for us now. Just like with Return To Castle Wolfenstein and practically every other game, we'll be the last to see a version for our platform and weeks behind everybody else with updates. This truely saddens me Bioware. You had the opportunity to usher in a whole new era of commercial multi-platform software development and distribution and totally blew it. Yeah, you'll still get my money but you've certainly lost my respect.
Did USPS happen to gobble up the paper renewal forms as well? I find it hard to believe he wasn't mailed any. I've read over all the information presented by MacSlash and it would seem the blame falls upon the owner, not anyone else, because of his irresponsibility as the head of the company. I own several bars, and by not renewing the liquor license on time, I could be subject to thousands of dollars in penalties and fines, despite whether I received renewal information or not. He should have known his "rent was up" so to say. Perhaps this is a valuable lesson he can learn from in the future.
A month ago I purchased a PowerBook G4 from Apple for well over $2000. When the unit arrived, the AC port was bent to one side, making it almost impossible to plugin the AC adapter or remove it yet it did still worked. Also, the paint near the power button was peeling. Having it for only a day I contacted Apple and told them about the condition my PowerBook came in. They agreed to fix the AC port and "made an exception" to fix the peeling paint. Over two weeks later I received my PowerBook back, the peeling paint was gone but the AC port was still bent and now, not even functioning. Grease was oozing out of the LCD screen hinges that connect it to the PowerBook, and smeared all over the top, bottom, keyboard and screen. A big chunk of paint and plastic was missing off one of the LCD screen hinges, which protrude from the back, as if it had been dropped! A five inch black scratch graced the upper left hand corner of the screen and the PC card slot would not eject cards, nor would the eject button reseat into the PowerBook. In the two weeks Apple had my PowerBook, they had completely thrashed it. I called Apple up five minutes after receiving the unite from repair and told them about the condition my PowerBook came back in from repair. They transfered me to a repair admin who had the audacity to tell me I need to be "ginger" with the unit, as if I was responsible for the damage it had sustained. He then told me he would make an "exception", and fix the unit one more time. Furious after my conversation with the repair admin, I called back Apple to see what their policies were on repairing defective products, and if it was customary for them to blame any defect or damage caused by repair on the customer. I was transfered to a senior staff member who seemed genuinely appalled by my earlier experience with the repair admin. She was kind enough to place my repair order on a loop, enabling me to send it back that same day, making sure repair would be expedited. She was most kind, giving me her work contact information incase further difficulties arose. Now I wait for my PowerBook to return, hoping it will be in good condition but knowing after all it's went through, it'll never be "new" again. This has been a terrible inconvience to me because the PowerBook was purchased for the summer session of college.
Has anyone else had a similiar experience with Apple? From what I've garnered from the internet and other Mac users, Apple is supposed to be tops in customer service, satisfaction and product quality. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case for me. I've had much better experiences with PC companies such as Dell, which I'm sure, many will refute.
I think he's refering to the fact that children can walk into book stores and pick up a simple to read Spider-Man comic book as compared to the complex novels of the Expanded Star Wars Universe.
The whole point of the article was that they didn't pick the fastest available Athlon to date. They picked one that was supposedly most equal to the Apple. Apple claims dual 1Ghz G4s are roughly the speed of a 2.4GHz P4. There you have 400MHz of play between the two. In this comparison, there is 1Ghz of play between the two setups. It's not even comparable to Apples claims, it far exceeds them. The article didn't prove that an equally equipped Athlon setup could out perform an Apple. The price of the two systems in this articles comparison is not relevant.
I'd say Apples in OS 9 are a lot faster than PCs. There's just something about OS 9, everything is very snappy and crisp, apps just open with out that familiar winding of your HD you get in Windows. Unfortunately, this isn't a very good argument considering OS 9 is officially dead but soon so will be Windows 98 yet I'm sure people will continue to run that for years to come as well. As for OS X, yes, if you're going try and run it on your Tangerine iBook, sure, it'll be slow, but so would Windows XP on that Celeron 333 box you have lying around. I run OS X on a PowerBook G4 550 and it's pretty quick. I get a higher FPS rate in Quake III with the 16MB Mobility Radeon than I do in Windows 2000 AS with a GeForce2 MX 400 64MB, go figure? Is is as fast in every day use as Windows 2000 AS on my dual 1GHz P3 box? Hell no, but a lot faster than it would be on that P3 500 I have lying around. OS X just like 2000 or XP require high end hardware.
How is dual 1.533GHz Athlon processors anywhere equal to dual 1Ghz G4 processors? The combined processing power of the Athlons is over 1Ghz greater than the combined processing power of the G4s. Again, I ask, how is this equal? Also, we know the amount of ram in each system but what type of ram was it. The G4 had PC133 but the Athlon? It was likely using 266MHz PC2100 DDR ram, far superior. What about the hard drives? Apples was probably a DMA 66 5400 or 7200 RPM drive while the PC was likely supplied with a DMA 100 7200 RPM drive. With the processors aside, there's a lot more to consider when comparing apples to oranges.
I don't know how surprising this is considering I've had to live with this for the past seven years. You get pretty used to the traffic light cameras after awhile. You even become able to spot them from about 40 yards away. This gives you adequate time to decide wheather you really want to run that yellow light or not. The real challenge where I live is that every city has a different kind of traffic light camera. You have to get used to recognizing all of them. Basically the policy here is is that if you enter the intersection while the light is still yellow, even if it turns red while you're in the middle of the road, you wont get a ticket. This is not to say the cameras don't make mistakes. I've driven through many intersections where the cameras are flashing out of control on a green light. Never have I received a ticket because of this though. The really concern with photo radar is the road side traffic cameras. Mobile cameras in the back of Blazers ready to snap you on your way to and from work. One camera equiped SUV will move to four to five different locations a day. While traffic light cameras in my city are portable, they usually don't move them often.
Being a new Mac user, I have become increasingly aware that most online media content, wheather streaming or downloadable is now in WM or RM format. This is unfortunate for us OS X users because Windows Media Player is crap and Real Player is non existant (unless using OS 9). You would think anything that would make QuickTime technology more widely distributed would be beneficial to Apple. Apparently they don't really care what happens to QT considering QuickTime 6 is way over due.
Microsoft wanted Nintendo to drop its GameCube console and get behind the Xbox.
As the gamers.com article states, Microsoft wasn't looking to purchase the GameCube's technology when making an offer for Nintendo, they just wanted the name and licenses (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon). Despite the opinion of many gamers that the Dreamcast was a great system, the fact was Sega had been in second and third place for the last six years behind Nintendo and Sony. Microsoft didn't want that kind of recognition with their Xbox. They wanted the only heavy hitter at the time that could potentially smoke Sony.

Instruction on how to find the Apple Command Key (for idiots such as yourself).
Method one: Find the F key, the Apple Command Key will be exactly two keys to the left and two rows down from that.
Method two: Find the U key, the Apple Command Key will be exactly four keys to the left and three rows down from that (hint: not the spacebar but the one exactly to the left of it).
Now next time you buy a Mac, you wont need to shit yourself during the setup process.
A Zen-like simplicity to be sure, until I get to the initial software setup routine, and then Big Brother shows up. Turns out that if I don't enter all my personal information into Apple's online registration forms, I'm not going anywhere. Yes, there's a privacy statement, but I don't think I should have to pony up personal info to use a product I've paid for.
Fortunately this is not entirely true. True, when turning on your new Apple Computer for the first time you will be presented with a registration screen, but luckly by pressing Command + q, you can simply skip the registration process and finish the initial setup without entering any personal information.
