I agree. I found it hilarious that my OS 9 manual didn't include information about how to enable pre-emptive multitasking or a non-graphical user interface. I found it somewhat less hilarious when I realized that not only were the authors not joking, but there weren't any glaring omissions in the manual. (There were omissions in the OS, though, of course.)

Thank Jobs that OS X is finally out. It kinda sucks having to use a GUI that brings my 800MHz G4 to its knees, though. And it sort of sucked having to wait two years for a native port of Photoshop. And the GUI is less customizable than MS-DOS. The GUI is also somewhat non-functional -- when it's not wasting CPU cycles with useless animation and morphing effects, it's getting in my way.

This is why I also have several Windows machines, for when I want to be productive. Windows isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than any Mac OS. Apple is the best competitor that any company could ask for. I'll bet that if Apple went into the petrol business, Enron execs would feel a lot better about themselves.

Oh well, at least Apple still has its hardware. Sure, it's dreadfully underpowed, and sure, it's horribly overpriced, and sure, Apple ignores open hardware standards in favor or proprietary garbage, and sure, Apple shuns backward compatibility which would allow users to remain productive without upgrading. Oh, wait. I guess the hardware sucks too.

But they do have the industry's only one-button mouse! And that's the kind of innovation that gets you rememberd.

Netscape sat on its ass for four years and did nothing while MS bowled right over them, you fucking dumbass. I switched to IE for the same reason that everyone else did: since 4.0, it's been faster, and since 5.0, it's been more standards-compliant. Mozilla/Netscape 6 aren't an amazing improvement, by the way -- but if you'd actually written a web application in the last two years, you'd know that. IE is a godsend. And if the .1% of idiots who think that "Linux is ready for the desktop" can't use it, well fuck them in their idiot little assholes. Those of us using Windows, Mac OS, and UNIX are enjoying IE very much. You have no market share, and most of your users are 12-year-olds trying to escape "the evil empire." Your sad little whining isn't helping your image. If you had any experience in the way things work in the real world, you'd be begging Microsoft to let you port IE to Linux.

But a vehicle is driven by privilege!
    Slightly offtopic rant...

Thank you for restating that fact. I'm amazed at the number of people who feel that it's their right to drive an automobile, like that terrorist dyke in Florida who sued the state when the DMV told her she was required to remove her veil when having her photo taken. Driving is a privelege. The State licenses you to operate heavy machinery on roads that are built, maintained, and operated by the State. If you don't have the "right" to burn down a government building, then you don't have the "right" to drive a car. And if you don't like that system, then fuck you! Leave the country!

I'm not speaking to you, Crusty Oldman -- you have your head screwed on straight. I'm just using this opportunity to rant at all the losers out there. I listen to talk radio and recently heard a caller who was ready to kill the host to prove that he is "given the right to drive a car in the constitution." Sure, you have the right to drive a car on private roads that you own. But once you move onto roads that are owned, operated, and maintained by the taxpayers and the state, then you are must be licensed to abide by the laws of the state. It's a privelege granted by the state.

Stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Never. I'm constantly amazed by the filthy fucking hoardes of people who live here and don't understand the basic principles upon which all modern forms of government and society are based.
