    Unfortunately, it took me a lot of flame wars on alt.html before I realized this. Now, I pay more attention to GUI development guidelines than HTML development guidelines.

    Human space travel just seems to, well, pointless. It takes years to travel anywhere interesting. Conditions in the rest of the solar system are inhospitable. It takes billions of dollars. You can point to all the technical innovations that the space race spawned, but I believe for most people there is no longer a perceived benefit for spending money on space exploration. There are more interesting problems here that need solving. I would rather have robotic slaves, virtual reality and cybernetic implants than a base on Mars.

    I say, let private enterprise fill the gap - that way people are spending money where they personally see fit, as is their perogative. If there is no interest, then let it die.

    You know what killed the Amiga? VGA. As soon as VGA came about I got graphics envy and it was only a matter of time before I switched. 32 colors was just not enough. On a deeper level, I suppose its closed hardware design was the cause of its demise.

    yes, and if the Mac ever gets more popular (ie gets more former Windows users) .. applications will be able to get away with being Windows-like. On second thought, perhaps more Windows-like applications are what the Mac really needs.

    The time to get a phone number from my old Nokia via any method (ie Recieved Calls, phone book, etc.) was much faster than on my current phone, a v220. An endless source of annoyance.

    Windows is surprisingly resilient in terms of running as vital system files are deleted from underneath it

    I remember a system tuner utility that came with my previous video card that allowed me to cache Windows in memory. Presumably you could then delete just about everything.

    Except the reality is that Debian has lost momentum. Those 10 developers for a year may be able to put it back in a leadership position, thereby increasing donations.
