Nope. Try again. Evolution can occur incrementally. You hypothesis implies that it connot. Um, no, sorry. Please come back again later when you can pay the tab.;^)
If you weren't so hasty in trying to e-slam me, you would have realized I was saying why this couldn't be used as an argument to sway adherents of creationism and intelligent design.
I think as the North American economy becomes more and more service oriented, then those with the soft skills (networking, leadership, socializing, etc.) will continue to be more respected and higher up the ladder than the smart people.
I find it incredibly frustrating to be a mere smart person these days. I'd trade it all away for some slick sales skills.
I think that perhaps he was speculating what happens when it becomes cost prohibitive to provide fuel for jets. Whip out your napkin and calculate the price of a LA to NY ticket if the cost of fuel doubles or triples.
I wouldn't say expendible so much as replacable. Firemen and police fall into that category as well - and their wages are on par with IT, are they not? All have some responsibility, but are in abundant supply. Take a security guard, for example - they screw up and there could be major consequences but I don't know a lot of rich (honest!) security guards.
Doctors and executives on the other hand.. not so replacable and their earnings show it.
It's amazing how 'grey' the rules seem, yet in practise work very well. One of the closest ways we have to representing how a human being goes about picks out patterns IMO. I wonder how fuzzy regexps would work.
Exactly - Troy was not merely allright because of the screenplay. It had some extremely amateurish overacting on the part of Mr. Pitt and others.
As for griping about re-interpretation, I think we can safely say Homer did not have the silver screen in mind when he wrote it.
I have to agree there - the developers are getting quite good at what they do. NHL 2005 (or 2004, can't remember) from EA had the best gameplay I've seen in a hockey game yet. The Tiger Woods golf series is amazing in terms of gameplay. Civ III Conquests is the ultimate Civ AFAIC in terms of gameplay. What the industry lacks, and will continue to lack, is originality.
Of COURSE it was easier to come up with an original idea when the industry was young. But is originality everything? If you are getting bored with games, perhaps you are playing too many!
To go even further, I think that age tends to waste a lot of time in general perhaps due to a temporary lull in responsibilities. Career/wife/kids haven't arrived yet, parents are out of the picture. Other popular time wasters include pot, video games and TV.
Of course I'm generalizing.. but I've got plenty of anecdotal evidence to back it up.
It seems that most of the replies are of the constant BSOD example variety, so I will support your statement with my own experience - In over three years of using Windows 2000 on a daily basis, I have never seen a single BSOD. I put it through its paces - software development with dozens of programs open, games using the latest NVIDIA drivers. I would often run it for more than a few weeks without rebooting. In fact, our Linux mail server crashed more often (once every 3 or 4 months) due, we believed, to faulty Megaraid drivers.
Compared to most conspicuous consumption, paying $500 for a video card offers trememdous value for the money. Ever played Half Life 2 on a high end system? It's like a wet dream come true.
I don't constantly wish my car was faster, or my jeans were hipper, or my stereo was louder, or my um.. but I do wish my computer was faster.
Firstly, it's configurable through software like any other firewall, and secondly it automatically works for folks who don't know what a firewall is, or don't have the latest OS or patches - that's the group we are talking about, right? For the more informed, there is the obvious performance gain. I just see it as another layer in the onion.
I suppose the best solution would be to have some sort of hardware firewall standard so OS makers could automatically include generic utilities/drivers in the OS. Hardware firewalls become as ubiquitous as other types of periferals such as mice. Sorry to get all utopian on you..
The only thing that nags at me is why Microsoft didn't do this ten or so years ago, when home users were beginning to connect to the Internet in large numbers.
In terms of culpability, you should also consider motherboard/ethernet manufacturers. I recently purchased a Gigabyte mobo that comes with onboard ethernet and firewall - a very good place to put it if you ask me.
Not to mention what happens when something breaks, due to improper maintenance or whatever. A car will just roll to a stop.

Can this possibly be used as an argument for evolution?
Not until zooplankton evolve into seamonkeys it won't.
Christ, man. Most computer users still don't grasp the concept of a file and a folder.

Based on that review, I can't wait to see the movie. Unforunately, all of Slashdot now thinks it's a piece of shit.

Ya - and make sure your screen is clean. I thought I had about 5 dead pixels.
Sounds like an ill-conceived attempt to combat outsourcing.
That reminds of the joke..
Q. What's the difference between a hooker and an onion?
A. You cry when you cut an onion

I was stunned.. at how shoddy it actually looked up close.

I think the real risk takers are those switching to open source products, not those producing them.
I also have a feeling they will do the two button thing right ie make the second button distinctly secondary.
Why would the technology be any different? I am suggesting you get the same new microsoft pop-up blocker if you install the SP or get the toolbar.
Well, I am running Windows 2000 and I have the MSN toolbar installed which includes a popup blocker. Are you referring to a different popup blocker?

They do nothing but futily try to take over the world every night...
I shall call him .. Mousolini
