  1. still so much activity... on 1 Year Anniversary of Nimda Outbreak · · Score: 1

Strange that there is still so much Nimda activity. I have a scanner for the unicode vulnerability, which can scan complete ip-ranges and i found almost no vulnerable servers in 4 months. But Nimda might use other vulnerabilities of course.

At least it seems most admins patched their servers... or they just use apache instead of iis :)

Microsoft isn't winning atm, I must certainly admit that, but do you think they're going to 'quit'? They just started and they got an awful lot of cash their somewhere in Redmond, so I guess they'll stay in the market for quite a while.

And about Browser War II. I don't think there'll be one. At least not these years. If Microsoft keeps adding the latest scripting technologies, like jscript, vbscript, css and xml in the past, there won't be a chance for other browsers to get over 10% of the market.
Netscape lost because they sold crap. So you can beat IE only if it starts being crap... let's rephrase that: if it starts being more crappy.
The biggest question for all those i-know-how-to-check-my-hotmail-account people is 'why should I change my browser? this one works just fine.'

  10. bugme on Should Virus Distribution be Illegal? · · Score: 1

Viruses should sometimes be supported... well, at least they are usefull sometimes. Specially when the next bug after the last outlookbug is used. In this case MS 'needs' to bring out another patch and they know the bug is really seriously. Even when it takes a month or more. (about 20 patches in two months... darn, are they finally getting it...) :P Secondly, I found viruses extremely usefull for understanding more of 'the underground' of the computer by learning myself assembly. Heh, I don't say I like viruses... had a few bad myself, so I know the deal, but still. Those who spread it (or create it with nasty laboratories) are most of the time some lame ass scriptkiddies(unfortunetely, I've been there too) :(, Not the actual writers. Hmmz... I wonder what the definition of a virus will be. A program that edits other programs and/or files without asking? Or a program which spread itself...? There are just too many different kind of viruses to create one proper definition. Can anyone anyways?

Is it wrong to add something to your own product? (I consider a protocol also a product). It's just a new version, with new features and then Mr. Redhat can't compete, so he justs talks a lot blabla to get attention... yawn.

If Linux wants to 'win' they should develop a better product. And even if they have a better product, then they should try to get new users and MS-stuff-users using their products.
If you don't, you lose, that's the whole idea of a free market. Not only in computerindustry, but just anywhere there is one.

I tried Linux Mandrake a few times, but I'm not really impressed about it. There was always something that didn't work when I installed it.
Sure, I get it too work with some help, but that's not an option for pc-noobs and people who don't want to put that much time in it (which I can imagine, I must admit). They just want to install and it should work.

Sure Linux/Unix is a good product, but it's just what you want to do with it and how much time you want to spend on making it work the way you want it. If you have the time and you want to use it that way, that's your opinion and I think you should support your own idea's. But other people just don't.
I can live with other OS's and other supporting their OS, but I know many who don't. So, c'mon guys, on whatever OS your computer is running, stop acting like clowns and stop this useless conversation.

If you hate Unix, you'll always hate Unix and if you hate Windows, you'll always hate Windows. There's no solution and I don't think this conversation will ever end... at least not in the next ten years.

    *sigh*

Looks like I'm going to read a lot of conversations like this and it looks like I'm going to write a lot of this (also useless) messages to get you people live with each other. But heh, that's just me...

Ok, ok, Java is platform independent, really nice, but I don't think you get the same performance with javagames in comparison to the way they are created nowadays.

On top of that, I think MS will 'talk' to the developers of Xbox games to leave Java the way it is and not to create any Javagames at all.
Let's stay realistic, Mr. Sun, Java may be great for some small games and webapplications and other crossplatformthingies, but 'large' games? Naahh... I think not.
