    Just from what I have read about the IRA - you will get caught - you will not want to go back to prision - you will organise/encourage other people to get caught in their turn.
    So I guess it is up to everyone to improve freedom fighting/hacking tools so the reckless young can have more of an impact. At least it gets us better jobs in the security forces in fact we should encouage them / run agents etc:)

    I only really started making the mistakes 'real' people do when I had to do things fast - moved from taking an hour to grok what was required to having something demoable in 15 minutes - or talk back in 20 seconds.

    So people do not make the mistakes you do given 3 years degree + x years on the job, or who have not coded in 5 years, how would it be otherwise?

    The person who never made a mistake never made anything.

    I have been promised some simple survey data (bipolar survey) - what is the best way to analyze and display - I am into java/database/oracle and would like to use business intelligence techniques to test growing my career that way.

    I realize there are lots of ways to do this, most of which would increase my skillset.

    also tux typing (?) and maths from tux for kids.

    We have some (Russian) bought programs and lots of Movies/DVDs - he has not gone on the internet/youtube/flash programs yet. (He is 2 years 2 months - flashcards on childsplay was the first thing he used at 20 months).

    I guess putting our 9 year old pc on the ground our maybe leave a 20 year Amiga out on the ground for him to destroy is next.

    I was sharp when I was 20. At 38 5 breakdowns latter I am just about treading water. I write down in a computer file (utf8) what I used to remember. I played with regurgitating random parts of this memory file - mostly just reminded me what little progress I have made. (Same job 10 years later)

    What I really worry about is my bipolar/depressed 72 year old mother and how long we can keep her out of a nursing home.

    I am certain there is a software answer for this - but I do not hear any big developments, maybe she should just carry a pencil and paper everywhere - like I do.

    I remember meeting a blind man when I was 18 and thought of all the computerized benefits that were just around the corner - oh to be 18 again...

    I grew up on esoteric family arguments, pulp fiction novels, science fiction novels (Asimov), close best friends (serial monogamy/pair programming), computers, and some baroque music. I wish I would have paid more attention to other peoples interests - they seemed dull (pop music) or prohibited (women) at the time. School and university are just creches - giving you what you already should have. That is a good sound bite I mean what you should already have such as access to fellow specialising knowledge travelers, access to young adult societies (for learning to organise and be organised) and women. Another case of someone taking the foot off your face and saying you have been given something.

    I am always looking for more data, from new people, from different countries.
    I think I am making up for my slow algorithm in my head, or maybe all this data is slowing me down.
    Actually it is making no decisions and having a cloud of maybes instead of deciding what rules I want to live by is the problem.

    Maybe the death of religion is the ability to find groups of people with whom you could share/learn useful information/best practice. The problem is our shared context is English language - try www.italki.com . That is my fault I have been fed English language even other countries radio (on short wave from the age of 12) in English has not been enough to train me to communicate, and a environment that was poisoned by bipolar and a monoculture of single sex schools and Irish Catholicism. I tried to escape it but if you try to be from nowhere you meet nobody.

    There are lots of people involved in religion and the big religions try to stay relatively stable.

    It follows that a study of religion is essentially a study of controlling devout people, it also follows that where, why and how the devout paper over the cracks to appear consistent in a changing world is a circus act that all of us can watch.

    Credo.
    I believe that any place we have access to free information about people should be mined relentlessly and vigorously with the minimum of belief.

    I have bipolar and a young son.

    This news is all about drugs, targeting expensive treatments to those with a certain genome, while the benefit of the drugs is questionable the profits are rising, and the side-effects are unknown.

    This news should be about education rather than selection. I never came across therapy or psychology until my first breakdown - after 16 years of state education. With all the 1% incidents and including work mates, friends and relatives you will come across mental variation, Will you be trained to walk over the people (or pass them to professionals which is the same thing) or will you have the minimum education and life experience to respond to help both of you, a hand up not a hand out.

    Any quick fix interaction beat banging my head on a brick wall that was my final year project.
    Now I am stuck on RSS feeds, has there been any progress in 13 years, or do I have a bored addictive personality "disorder". I add disorder to get the trolls saying that is a tendency within the normal range, not of medical note.

    Actually wise guys are there decent 12 step programs to ween you off, alcohol, drugs [prescription and non prescription], gambling etc that do not seem to be run by people who just say its obviously your fault if the program did not work for you.

    I am actually bipolar and searching for non drug solutions [while still taking the drugs]. But hey adding real problems just seems to spoil the post and makes me seem needier than I am.

    I take drugs for bipolar tendency and have had 5 nervous breakdowns, so I have some ideas about how the brain goes wrong, I am afraid that the search for a perfect machine learning device may be a side track compared to explaining the mistakes the brain makes.

    I have an engineering degree and a masters specialising in machine learning - but that was 13 years ago, I would be delighted in more pointers of the state of the art

    The linux counter shows usage stable or falling, though I think there was a purging of the system.

    Do people just not want to do low level non graphics work any more, and who wants to be a pointy headed bosses biter and byter when you can produce slick demos and at worst powerpoint slides.

    I miss the good old days when the future of low level tech looked good.

    Youth is wasted on the young.

    I thought an Engineering degree and computer science work would be applied enough and be structured enough to look like a reasonable career choice. It is not I am still looking for something that will suit me better, should I have shot for the moon, done pure maths and ended up a school teacher (not a well respected or well paid position in these parts. My father had the same choice having been best in his school at mathematics, there were few computers in 1960, so he followed in his fathers footsteps and did medicine, maybe my recently born kid can follow his star, shine brightly and live on welfare after his short bright career fades.

    I am a 36 year old programmer and I feel that the drugs have brought some stability, but I feel I take them to do what the establishment says and keep my job, and get a decent referral to hospital should the need arise. I have had 5 breakdowns followed by a month off work. Should I wait to get the sack before ditching the drugs, or am I missing out on life and even getting the most from my employment (money is not everything but no money is nothing). [There is more in my life, my wife just had a baby boy.]

    ...seems pretty much the same.

    I programmed a little z80 machine code, on the Sinclair ZXSpectrum. as a 12 year old, and though a BASIC poker program was much appreciated by people around me, there was no feeling for people who would join me or groups that I could join,

    I had hoped the internet would allow proto programmers to join together as let us face it any non trivial program is a community effort, but it appears that finding online comrades does not compare to getting a group of coders in the same locality (town/school/city).

    My history of coding started at 12 and basically stalled at 14-20 where other people priorities (school/university) got in the way of my career. Having an Amiga 500 since the age of 17 with all its tricks confused me no end. I got a C compiler for it in the end but never did anything really serious with it. I now code for a living from the age of 24 to 36.

    I am manic depressive/bipolar as are most of my family.

    But then maybe that is a typical, to a programmer every information problem is a programming problem. I am beyond, if I was ever capable of, making innovative developments in this area but I just might try to put recent information in a more accessible format.

    Actually the demands do not NEED to be orchestrated, developers know which projects they want to work on, which projects are useful for their careers, and which projects or services make money, there is nothing wrong with making money but one needs to know how much you have been compromised.

    That is wrong, there should be a guild (www.programmersguild.org is for people from the USA) we belong to to do things right and for the common good, and we should know how far from this warm camp fire we are, further out in the darkness perhaps, but we can still see the light. Maybe www.fsf.org, if only there were more full time jobs in it.

    In reality managers want people who are generalists so they can be poured around easier and not become important enough at a specialty to rise above competition and demand more wages/be harder to replace.

    "Take over the means of production", was a rallying cry now everyone has a computer and access to the internet, what was the next stage to socialism/communism, monopolising the means of production collectively by general striking? What if developers stopped until their demands were made, what would be the demands?
