As much as humanity has all the resources to technically end poverty, but human nature is the most important barrier to that goal.
So lets say one day when you wake up, suddenly everyone on the planet has a decent amount of money and a comfortable house. How long do you think it will stay that way before a group of people slip down the road of poverty again?
People would gamble, deal with drugs, spend their money on unnecessary things, go into debt, once again.
The originally-poor people would then think "Hey, since I've got some bit of cash on me for the first time in a long time, why not gamble it and start making more money?"
If you believe that humans cause global warming, it means the evil Earth has won!
Fight for your freedom guys! We must not let Earth destroy our freedom!
It hates us for our freedom.

In Singapore, fireworks have also been cancelled and countdown shows have been cancelled.
I'm proud of my country, with so many people chipping in, from executives, to your low-middle class workers.
Whether is it $1 pitched in, or $100,000, I think its really heart-warming to see people all over the world taking out their wallets (or other items) to help the victims of this terrible disaster.
Don't you get it, this is exactly the reason why countries around the world dislike the United States.
Democracy is good, but its not for everyone.
If you're forcing democracy down its throat, you're only gonna end up harming yourself. Just like how the Bush Administration is trying to push democracy in the Middle-East.
The people are not ready yet!
Other forms of government can be just as effective. So they are different, well thats culture for you!
And China' ain't bad, they are opening up, I've been in China for over a month and it feels just like home, you get to eat, sleep, shop, work, freedom to choose your jobs, buy materialistic things. What more?
China has been living with far worst government for over 2-5k years now (read: Monarchy; Emporers) and if you take a step back, Communism is actually much less strict.
IMHO, weren't people already complaining that Microsoft has been installing too much applications in their Windows OS and by doing that, creating an monopoly?
Make up your minds, do you want Microsoft to build in those apps, or do you want Microsoft to have a monopoly.
There is no two way.
I'm not saying that Microsoft or Apple don't have any effect on technology, but anyone who thinks that Jobs or Gates are ubergeeks are deluding themselves.
Apple I computer? BASIC? Hmm...
I wonder where will we be without them.
Personally, I find outsourcing a good benefit to the global economy.
We're living in the world of globalization. Everybody is on the equal playing field. If these people are willing to accept less money for more work (in India), more power to them.
Thats what globalization is all about.
The way I see it, this is a wake-up call to people who believes that living in a Hyperpower means, a secure high-paying job forever.
What we can do is get out of our comfortable armchair, and start working on how we can improve ourselves so that we are more valuable to our employer than the guy working his/her butt off in India.
How totalitarian are you talking about.
There's always a misconception that Singapore is being run by a dictator-ish party. Well thats not true at all! We have quite a number of opposition parties here but they never seem to be able to get their election policies right.
Why bid for someone else, who have no proven track record? I'm happy under the rule of the PAP (Ruling party since independance) and until they majorly fucked up the country, I will still continue voting for them.
We have all the freedoms that you people in the western countries keep trying to push for in the middle-east. We vote, we can get cars, we have religious freedom.
If you give me a choice between living in UK or Singapore, I'll say Singapore in a heartbeat. Racism here is at a all-time low, perhaps one of the lowest in the world.
I enjoy the culture diversity here. We get to experience malay food, chinese food, european, and many other international cusines.
Please, stop reading all the bias news you see on the internet to put up your case against Singapore.
You have to be here, to experience it.
You've forgot to minus off the time that was lost during the Dec. 26 Earthquake.
This sounds like a job for the Apprentice.
Apprentice 4 : Candidates tries to sell Sony PSP.
Girl? Pregnant?
What is these words you are talking about?
Someone hold me.
Singapore has signed a FTA with U.S too, along with Australia.
Now where did I put my Thermal Explosive Hard-Disk Destroyer 2004.
Will this change by Cohen affect how the other BT clients communicate with it?
Well, how can they free something that originally belongs to them?
Its like asking the President of the United States to give New York away.
I miss you dave.

I hope I'm not the only one who's feeling that lots of irrelevant news posts have started to appear on our once beloved community.
How about a 1Gbps connection :)
Alright, fess up! Who's using the voodoo doll!
The truth is, the common people don't care about that.
They have better things to worry about like, when is their next harvest going to be.

Let the country run itself.
Could we have discovered a fully functional death star?
I for one, welcome our new Imperial overlords.
Have they finally fixed the cursed tabbed browsing memory leak where, closing tabs doesn't free up the memory it used?

According to this news article, Singapore is also the best Asian country in e-government services.
Don't think too much about it. Not everything is a "Chinese Conspiracy".
:P
I'm Chinese (not China Chinese) and in our culture, bird shitting on your head, or you're stepping on dog shit, is considered good luck.
Of course, we don't go all out to find birds to get shit on, or dog shit to step on
Hell, we're advised to buy lottery straight after the incident.

A little out of topic here,
How does one go around tracing the number of domains using a particular server as vhost?
