    I mean seriously, what if every night I leave a macro program running (I'm a dirty cheater, I know) that fishes for me all night long. Or hides. Or whatever (I'm thinking UO here, where the more you do something, the better you get at it). In any case, won't the AI immediately find a place to fish then if I turn it on? Suck.

    On the other hand, maybe we can't expect everyone to be quite as enlightened as we are (sarcasm? I'm not sure myself...). It does not hurt you if someone cuts their own hands off. Except I guess when they ask you to teach them to tie their own shoes (oh, a metaphor). Why fight this? Even if it becomes a law, would you follow it anyway? Are you so attached to the US? Why let them drag you down? Just leave for pete's sake.

    I might lay down and let them take my freedoms but I am sure as hell not going to pay them while they do it. I'll be a little more blunt, since on the off chance the person responsible for this reads this, they are obviously very very dense. There is no way in hell I will pay for a computer that was designed not to work. If they gave it to me, I might accept it for parts.

    Just out of curiosity, could you then impregnate yourself with your clone? I would be afraid of doing a crappy job raising my clone, and then it would make me be its slave and do all of its homework. (semi-carefully chosen example) And yes, I am tangential.

    The sound still has to come out of it though. This still won't stop me from putting an audio jack from my discman to my computer, and then ripping it from there. Nor will it stop anyone else, which means I will still be able to download whatever they have locked up so tightly. It's moot and stupid.

    When this whole worldcom thing came after enron, I was thinking how we should problaby not have been so gung ho about disecting the books of every major company, since it seems some big players seem to be not quite the angels we thought they were (yeah right). I'm just wondering if the damage would have been less if these things had been spread out more. That's the sort of sneaky thing thing that got us in trouble in the first place, but still...

    sweet jesus, I forgot I had an account. And to think all this time I've been an anonymous coward. So anyway, before that last emotional outburst, what I meant to say was that I think that as long as there are universities around things will be ok. I'm pretty sure that most offer some sort of access in their dorms, and elsewhere if you want to pay. Ya. I go to Ohio State and it's mad fast. Maybe I'm just being short sighted, but then again, I don't see myself leaving here any time in the next ten years either...
