The university is building a filter for a new $50,000 server, and it does not know yet how many of these it will need for its entire network. The task requires not only programmers but also lawyers, as the state university has to be sensitive to the First Amendment rights of the spammers.
Why hire more than one lawyer for something as trivial as "the First Amendment rights of the spammers"? Or even better, you could let some of the Seniors and Faculty of the on-campus law school elaborate in legal fashion why it costs money to listen to commercials.

So fuck Microsoft, but only when I'm not on my Windows partition playing games.
I say fuck Microosft, and play yer first person shooters in Linux (of which all the award-winning ones are available for or can be run in winex). As fer other genres, play them on a console.
And fuck the MPAA, only when I'm not buying the LOTR DVD.
Or buy the DVD and and tell Jackoff Valenti to erm, beat off. Simple as donating to the EFF.
And don't forget to fuck the RIAA, but that's only if I'm not buying music in the stores or online.
Perhaps if you focused on weaning the RIAA off declining retail sales and onto e-commerce, they wouldn't be so cranky about lossy sales because of a recession.
Sony and Nintendo may have been selling their consoles at a loss when they initially built the factories for each new console, but after they've paid for the factory using profit from games, they're also making money from selling the console. Similar to the cpu & ram business.
remember, 98% of all games still aren't making use of pixel shaders
Ah, but what you're forgetting is that a vast majority of the games published any given day are crap. Just ask you're nearest game reviewer (ie PC Gamer, Gamespy, etc).
I saw an article in some magazine about that. They said that some hotels in Europe catering towards business travellers had cameras in their shredders, along with hidden cameras to take pictures of the customer's laptop screen. All for corporate espionae.
That's what the CIA does with their documents, and it works for them. They even have a team that sifts throught the soot to make sure it all got burned.
Step 1: Confetti Shred it
Step 2: Toss it in the fireplace at home, one fistfull at a time, so that it doesn't put out too much black smoke
Step 3: Profit!

New Linux PVR Box

Hey man, if you've managed to attach a TV Tuner to your Xbox so it can function as PVR, please share the details:)
Personally, I'm going to wait patiently for Sony & Verant to debut the PS3, whatever it may be, as the current PS3 may not be production-ready when 2004/5 come around. Why? Because they ported EQ to the PS2, and EQ gameplay on the PS2 is more refined, albeit with PS2 graphics. I'm betting they'll wait for the PS3 before they port it, because the PS2 has a very dated GPU, and it just wouldn't do Galaxies justice. And of course by then, Galaxies will hopefully have been fixed up.
Or the CVS version of WineX, which is free. Of course, you're encouraged to subscribe to Transgaming to fund further development. But the point is that you don't need much more expensive software (Vmware, Win4Lin) just to play CounterStrike.
I remember someone on Slash linked to it once. It was a 60's drawing, propogated by some Usenet group that Disney refuses to acknowledge. Something like alt.sex.disney.erotica or whatnot.
At least with the Xbox you can let your friends borrow the games. And you can use it without fear of getting sued by someone so paranoid that they put a paragraph of legal threats on the "You can't access this server directory" page of their server just for trying to view their/images directory.
I've decided I'd rather be paying $50 for a game that offers >40 hours of entertainment (Neverwinter Nights or Half Life 2) than to pay $50 to watch an episode of CSI that lasts less than 1 hour.
They may sell 1,000,000 units, but the estimate assumes all the buyers will sign up for their subscription plan. And in order to price them competitively, they'll prolly price them below $200. Which means I'll be getting my mom a new web/mail "PC" for $200 that has way better components than the $200 WalMart Linux PC. Bonus points for whoever can get the Linux edition of Doom 3 to run on it:)
You don't need a smartphone - just a cell phone that supports Java 2 Micro Edition. As for typing, well, you can use one of those clip on thumboards.
Forget Xenix. I want to see someone put SCO Linux on an Xbox and make it load the SCO site. Only then will I have my fill of irony.
A joke! He made a joke, and he got $700 :P

When I was downtown several weeks ago, I saw "SCO" on a building. I almost laughed outloud until I remembered it was the college of which you speak.
Suddenly SCO's web servers seem to have melted into puddles of molten metal and crispy silicon.

*ding* "Max Power" == Max's CO power in Advance Wars
Maybe I've just been playing it too much w/ Gameboy Player on my 19" tv....
What DVD-/+R format is best for "backup copies" of Xbox games? I think some of the games are just plain CD-R...

And also to the PS2, according to this.

I think it would have more to do with those individuals paying child support and not having to worry about terrible things like kids being roasted to death because they are forgotten in day care vans.

I think I lost my pitchfork and torch from the last escapade at SCO HQ.
