What if, during the configuration the software asks the user what country they are broadcasting from, and using that data, will warn the user when they attempt to broadcast outside of an acceptable local public band.
I would go so far as to suggest that the software refuse to broadcast on certain bands, such as air traffic control channels, and other mission critical frequencies.
Of course, being a GNU product it would be possible to bypass this if you really wanted to, but it would keep most of the idiots from flooding out CB Channel 9 and whatnot
Samba was a lifesaver to me as I migrated my home network from windows to linux, as i needed one M$ machine on the lan. Now that i don't run windows anymore, i still have a samba machine, so my parent's can use my printer.
I would have to say that Samba has been one of the most important apps i have ever used! I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the samba project, for making my life easier!
I've heard that that sort of stuff happens when you don't sleep.
Aparently the brain needs to dream. And it will, whether you sleep or not.
And, as an after thought.. I really must try smoking coffee..
I'm Canadian From oakville, ontario (halton region). It's damn near impossible to get admitted here. I've had friends admit themselves before, and they had to argue with the nurse to be let in.
The main problem here, is that the provencial government has started to cut funding, and the directors of the hospitals don't want to give up their $500K + salaries, and helicopters and company vipers... Ah, but i digress..
Anyway, the nurses that handle admissions are not overly receptive to new patients here. And for all but the most serious cases, they only keep you long enough to do an evaluation. You have to be pretty messed up to get any sort of treatment past a week.
That was my sort of disjointed, drunk, demirant. Actually, i refuse to take credit for that. It's probably of shameful quality.
I'm not american, so I'm not entirely sure about this. But my impression of the Patriot Act, is that it creates an unofficial police state.
Doesn't the FBI now has the ability to detain anybody, indefinitely, without the right to a trial, or access to a laywer?
The whole bloody thing is a giant witch hunt. I could point a finger at anybody, say that they're a terrorist, and the FBI can essentially lock them up forever without a trial.
And I live in Oakville (near toronto), and a few schools have been closed, because it's more efficient to have one large building, as opposed to 3 smaller ones. But then again, it depends on the area you're in.
New housing developments have extra demand for schools in the first 20 years. Then the need tapers off as the generation of kids grows up and moves out.
ACtually, the FCC allows you to violate many of the laws, if indeed you are actually broadcasting for emergency conditions.
For example, I have heard (somone correct me if i'm wrong) that in north america, if you dial 911 your cell phone will increase it's output beyond the "Safe" requirements for non-interferance, and that it can transmit on "reserved" channels as well
Actually,
I fall into the category of people that do not have a windows computer at home. I'm a linux-only person.
Now, if I was going to buy a car, and BMW's website refused me access, because i wasn't using IE, I wouldn't purchase their product.
What's the point in alienating at least 15% of your prospective customers, by denying them access to your online sales propaganda?
I'll just research my next vehicle at their competitors website
Okay. I'll call you ignorant.
What we have here, is an industry that wants the government to legislate protection for their outdated business model, because that's cheaper than evolving to meet the needs of the marketplace.
The idea that this should happen goes against the very fabric of our capitalist economy that we have worked so hard to build.
I honestly would like to see the broadcasting industry go into the shitter. That's where we're supposed to put shite... right?

I agree. All the technology in the world won't make anything secure if the people using it aren't security conscious
What good are passwords when they're on a post-it note, taped to the monitor?
Forget that PGP vulnerability. How many people would accept and use a fake public key without checking it's validity first?
How many people put passwords on somthing if it's optional? How many people use "password" as their password? How many CEOs use "password" as their password? And that's taped on a post it note to the side of their monitor?
My father didn't like the idea of having to use a real password on his *PAYPAL* account. He wanted to use his username for the password!
Maybe it's time we invest all this money that we're using on Crypto R&D, and spend it on basic security courses for our users.
but sometimes that breaks windows.
Part of the reason for the reboot is that the handlers for driver installaion don't clean up properly, and often impede the install of the next driver
I would not say 1/10th. I've used a *lot* of weird hardware. Only on 2 occasions have I found somthing that doesn't work under redhat.
1: I had a cheap-o generic brand web cam. I sold it after i eliminated windows from my house. - This was 2 years ago, i don't know if it works yet.
2: My scanner was unsupported up until 8 months ago.
Everything else works. I've no problem with any hardware. So, can the AC name 9 pieces of unsupported hardware, for every piece of supported hardware that i can name?
Works under linux too.
The drive needs to be there when the driver initializes the IDE controller at boot. I suppose if you were using a scsi disk for your system volume, or if your OS was on a ramdisk, then you could remove and reinsert the IDE modules to have the bus rescanned to detect a new geometry, or a drive that wasn't there before.
It's probably a bad idea to try this though, unless you're pissed off at your hardware.....
Since everybody has mentioned price,
i will talk about reliability.
Battery backed up ram is pretty useless. Nuff Said.
Flash has a VERY low MTBF. Typical flash ram can take up to a few hundred thousand write cycles before it dies. There are products that use an internal allocation system to increase the life to a few million writes, but that is still not acceptable for use outside of a specialized embedded system.
Magnetic media, such as a hard disk has a much longer life span, and can be written and erased almost forever, as long as you give it clean power, don't bang it around, don't peel off those little stickers, and don't attempt to mod your hard disk and add a little window....
Just because not all the components support MS' DRM technology, doen't mean that it's not MS' DRM technology at work

Philotic theory is Fiction! Quantum entanglement just doesn't work outside of certain sci-fi books

Simple, in the case of an act of god, you sue the pope (he can afford it)

What was that device they used in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I think it was called the "Penfield Mood Organ".

RedHat and Mandrake are trying desperately to compete.
Microsoft is trying to stamp out competition.
Better is not granting a software company complete access to your computer in exchange for security patches.
Better is not having to agree to a contract to use your software.
Better is being able to redistribute your software with few restrictions.

The Glass Armonica was invented almost 60 years before the Harmonica.
