Yeah, what about custom distro's? allow someone to "Roll their own"? Maybe class them differently, but it's a bit more of a personal challenge of people could create something totally unique and give it a run.
This is the kinda thing Genetic Engineering and Modification should be going into, not for Cheaper prices in the supermarket, or Glowing fish, Lets see more food in starving country's, Less Landmines, and other ways to improve life,
Of course, thats whats been said about just about any new or improved technology in the last what, 30 years?
Any decent group distributing these movies, have known about, and removed these marks for years now, This is just a slightly new idea in that manner of copy protection, It'll be broken. They just missed it this first time (oops),
As I recall, Normally, they get two seperate copy's of a movie, and compare them, to find out whats different, then remove it from both copys.
Usually, you run things through a receiver, for example, the DVD, DSS dish, VCR (god forbid), Dreamcast, Record Player, Whatever, plug into the back of a receiver, then the receiver plugs into the TV, this lets you switch inputs, while having everything go through your surround sound system, it's kind of a waste for this TV to even have speakers, as if those who buy a 61" plasma, wont have a 7.1 or better surround sound system:P, but yeah, in my experience, once you have a decent sound system, you dont even plug any kind of audio into the TV, just video.
I Actually think this is a great idea, but why stop there? How about a spam registry, when say, 100+ people report a message as spam, it's placed in a global database, where e-mail clients or a daemon could compare local messages, and delete matches. this could reduce spam worldwide.
The international nature of the internet, provided with instant electronic money transfers, makes these transactions extremely hard to trace, though it's not impossible, it requires the cooperation of possible dozens of country's, their banks.
Imagine a payment, to a paypal account registered with a stolen credit card, thats transfered in an out of bank accounts all over the country, before being distributed accross several dozen real credit cards, from several different accounts, and of course, everything is happening through servers and banks in 9 different country's, and takes place almost instantly.
I'm shocked something like this is only coming up now, It's probably happened in the past, and we havent heard about it, but really, these companys are GIGANTIC targets, with deep pockets, and the attackers are not two sleazy toughs with baseball bat's, but skilled(?) crackers, who can remain anonymous, and protect themselves from the law enforcement efforts provided to those with deep pockets.
Still though, They run the risk of bringing the law down on DDoS'ers world over, SPEWS and etc. are being ddos'd and dont have the financial backing to bring the law into it, if Law enforcement tracks these guys down, they may extend into anyone doing DDoS's like this.
And finally, We could just blame everything on the spammers.
Well, I would hope they would either be mounted behind the drivers seat, (like in minivans) or not be able to be active while driving, was there not a system like this a few years ago? It couldnt be activated while the car was in 'drive', or was that for a phone?
Wont that be fun, "Whoopsie, we missed this horrible terrorist, and ACCIDENTLY hit that poor innocent anti-ourparty activist! such a pity..." or better yet, when the government can flash fry anyone on the planet in an instant, wait and see how wide the definition of terrorist gets.
I think theres a bunch of new stuff there, I thought the list was a top 10 list before... Maybe they reposted it because those last 8 jobs are something new:P, it means the article is 45% new:D
Can anyone post a link to how this is done, I mean, how can the from address be for sure? The same technique for spoofing ip4 could still be done with the right tools couldnt it?
Well, here's a few points of interest:
- What about things OTHER than Music, SOME PEOPLE *cough* download old TV shows or video clips, or even less mainstream music (lots of techno/trance stuff) that are almost impossible to find anywhere else, And while I think it'll be a while before people are downloading any software they want under the same subscription, what about things like movie trailors, and utilities, or pictures?
- Is this new Napster P2P? Or server based, if It's P2P, then is there not a risk of getting the same garbled songs as found on Kazaa and variants? how do they plan to verify songs?
- Are there any projects, to distribute things like ISO's, Source Code (With some type of verification of course), photography, free art or other free material? while yes many programs claim to distribute only free material, are there any that can use MD5 Summing to verify content, (other than whatchamacallit, freenet? that one that no one uses:P) Something like a searchable P2P network of.torrents,
- What incentive does this or any other service have over larger, more diverse networks such as Kazaa, or iMesh, (I'm not sure which of those are on the same network), besides legality, which I think it's been firmly established, is basically a non-factor in the mind of the consumer.
Coool...
Thats all I have to say actually,
I just wanted to post something...
And I tried to be the first one.. I failed..
Unfortuante. (See the slashdot tradition of illiteracy?)
ah well, It's my first post anyways, I cant always be at the top!

RTFA: It suggests using planes like cropdusters to plant them.

Anyone get flashbacks to old Sci-Fi shows? with the gigantic shoulder pads? Can we get high stainless steel collars on our jackets too now?

I thought another major pro for IPv6 was security? It has a lot more built into the protocol doesnt it?
