You can use the GUI once you actually have it installed....
Since you were running it off the live cd the option to bring up the dhcp connection on
boot-up is not stored or turned on by default, so you have to use the command prompt to bring the connection up.
Once you actually install it and set the network connection to start on boot it will work fine.
It's easy.. that dhcp checkbox is what tells it to start the connection on startup... yet, since you were running it from the live cd it won't remember that you checked that.
that's why the command prompt is your friend... you could have easily have started the connection from there.... linux has loads of useful help files (aka man pages).... step 1 RTFM
Ok... so what idiot wasted time thinking up space money.
Maybe I'll create my own space meoney too... I can guarantee that it is just as likely to be used. *cough cough never*
That's the same reason why I'd buy a Dell w/Ubuntu pre-installed. I'd simply too busy to deal with driver/hardware/install issues. I love my Linux box, but it's now pretty old (built and rebuilt over and over again since 99... currently running Mepis 10/2003). I don't really want to go through an install again, and I don't want to have to deal with picking the right hardware for an upgrade.
They can't even keep all the kid touchers off the internet. How in the hell do they think that they'll be able to get rid of or regulate any political ad or article.
Maybe they can have GW do google searches while he's on vacation.
Please stop trying to make your own star wars fan movies. They suck, they lack originality, and did I mention how they suck?
Nobody cares that you have better ideas for Darth Vader, Luke, Han, etc... Really!
Now please, I'm sure that you've all seen all 6 episodes a million times by now. Move and and try to do something else with your life... star wars is only a MOVIE, it's not Reality.
They cannot control Linux by buying one distro, and at the same time a buyout would make it look as if Microsoft sees Linux as a threat, or that Microsoft is finally accepting Linux as valid.
LOL!
I wonder if we'd get to the moon faster if there were WMD's on it... hmmm maybe Saddam shipped them to the moon before US forces arrived:P
Remember, we need a 'moon base' to protect the moon from terrorists.
...mainly since this is all one big pipe dream anyhow.
I still doubt that we'll see any sort of permanent 'base' in space for at least another 100 years.
there is no way to autoland the shuttle since it loses radio contact during reentry. if it rolls out of control there is no way to restabilize it. And there is no pilots eye view available for ground crews to land it either (ie: no camera for them to see how they are lined up with the ground).

It works... you just didn't 1) had it running from a live cd 2) didnt have your network configured correctly.
Of course it was slow... your running it from a livecd.... now if you would have actually installed it you would have seen how quick it actually was.

+100 Funny! ROFLMAO *note, I have patented rolling on floor..now you may only laugh...untill I patent that too*

I'm still holding out for Apple iPaper :)
Thank god I'm not the only one who feels this way. I don't see why people feel the nned to post a million f'ing music videos on their profile page.

Sap uses an oracle backbone (last time I checked), which makes Linux a natural choice for SAP.

strange... my toshiba laptop (running simplymepis 3.3) works fine with encrypted dvd's (using Xine). It sounds like you might just have a bad install.

One big missing link though witrh streaming media.... driving. It's sort of hard to get wifi access countrywide.
I was wondering the same thing. All my boxes now run Mepis, and I'm curious now to see how much different Ubuntu is.
I thought the same thing. Between the time change and the fact that it's monday, I think we can both blame it on fatigue.
RMS Finally completes GNU HURD. :P
