    As I recall, she was using an actual 3D shell for a commercial variant of Unix (though I forget which one). I do, however, agree with the rest of your post :)

    The point was that some systems may not have the killall command, and if so, you could take the above awk stuff and make a "wicked cool shell script" called killall.

    I think he meant for server-side operations that are not called by visitors to the website. Backups, for instance. I can't think of any other examples, though, so I could be a bit off :)

    Plain Old Text just runs an nl2br style function on the input; you need to use "Extrans" if you want to show up properly.

    GE also owns NBC ... I think Firefly would make an excellent lead-in to ER, because of the story arcs involved in each show. Thursday nights ... the writer's plaything.
