  1. Hooray for Pixar! Disney went one step too far... on Pixar Drops Disney To Find a New Studio Partner · · Score: 5, Interesting

When Pixar started off, they had no experience with distributing their work and marketing. So that's when they decided to collobarate with Disney. Disney being the giant that it was then, obviously had the better cut of the deal. The deal was to make 6 films. Pixar has done Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monster's Inc., Finding Nemo. That's 5 movies they've done for Disney and by rightly, it would've been 1 more film and the contract would've been over. But why is Pixar making 2 more films for Disney (The Incredibles & Cars)? Well, Disney argued back that Toy Story 2 is a sequel. They twisted Pixar's arm on that, and that's why Pixar isn't doing anymore sequels, they've practically done Toy Story 2 for free! Frankly, I'd say good riddance to Disney! Pixar's build a name for themselves and they are well loved by audiences of all ages. I don't think anyone else could have pulled off a story about fishes in the way Pixar has done. The originality and creativity of Pixar is seemingly boundless. Good job to Pixar for ditching Disney and I wish them all the best!

  2. What about the one... on How Microsoft Tried To Buy Nintendo · · Score: 1

What about the one where Microsoft also tried to buy Sega? Or the one where Nintendo and Sega were discussing a merger, or was it Nintendo buying over Sega - I can't remember now... Imagine this... Microsoft buys over Sony. Then they get to be a monopoly in electronic goods division too - Microsoft TVs, VCRs, DVD players, discmans, PS2s... wow... what a wonderful world it would be... NOT.

  3. Re:This is what the Radlight guy says... on Spyware Fights Back · · Score: 1

A lot of software these days contains spyware and they don't even bother to alert us about this during the installation. So we use AdAware which does a brilliant job of removing stuff we didn't want in the first place. And now, by installing RadLight removes AdAware during installation - at least we know what we're doing when we're using AdAware. Vicious cycle here really... You say you don't care about losing your userbase. Well, is there any point in developing or distributing RadLight anymore then?

Don't think I could agree on 'The Matrix'. I thought it was really great. Like you, I went into the cinema knewing nothing about the story. In fact, I flew in to New York from London with some friends. And on the first night we were there, we went to watch Phantom Menace. Credits rolled up, crowd clapped their hands and cheered. But as the show began, somehow, the appeal never caught on. There were too many annoying elements and something else was missing. Well, thought maybe it was because I was tired or something. So watched it again, and again and nothing. I felt nothing. On the other hand, the same week I went to New York, we watched Matrix the next night and man, I was blown away by it. Terrible similar to a typical anime storyline but it was cool. And I watched it quite a few times after that and it was still cool as you start understanding the storyline better and noticing the little things. Star Wars Eps IV-VI had its flaws but I loved them. And like most people, ESB was my favourite. I supposed people who watched it then didn't like the fact that they were left hanging like that and the fact that Han Solo was frozen in carbonite at the end. I heard the same comments about Lord of the Rings. Some people didn't really like it as much just because they didn't like the story ending like that - especially people who never knew about the books! TPM never made me fall in love with the story or the characters. I couldn't appreciate the young Obi-Wan, and even Yoda. It just wasn't great and didn't feel Star Wars. I supposed if the previous trilogy never existed, this film might have felt OK because there's nothing to compare it to. On it's own, it wouldn't be a hit, it would have been OK. I just hope that the second movie does get better - at least it's more commercialistic.

Well, reading some of the posts, it seems that a lot of people are interested in volunteering and helping out. While others may call them fools, I think it's a great kind gesture that's kinda rare to find these days. So here's a big good luck from the other side of the world to all you people in convincing the schools and helping them out and all!

  7. CounterStrike Overload on Games in the Workplace? · · Score: 1

My previous company went on a CS high. When I first joined last Feb, the guys there got me hooked on after working hours CS within days after I started. Well, that's how it first started - after working hours. Eventually, as the dotcom boom started going downhill, so did everyone's motivation. Soon we had lunchtime CS and eventually, towards the end of the company's inevitable demise, it was CS slightly before lunch, and then again at 4pm. The graphics guys were playing soccer and strategy games in between and a few of us on Yahoo! Games. Got to the extend when people were also watching movies at work. Oh well, helps if the bosses are never around and our team leader was crazy over CS as well.

It was fun while it lasted...

  8. They're meant to be a donation! on Microsoft's Guide to Accepting Donated PCs · · Score: 1

The problem with this is that it's meant to be a donation in the first place. Second hand hardware that people don't need anymore - if a school was desperate, heck they'll take it, with or without the software documentation and discs. Like those schools in Africa where they've got a lot of second hand 386s and 486s installed with Windows 3.1 or 95 - I doubt that they have the discs and docs - at least that's what I think. Any donation is gift welcomed. And it's for a good cause after all. If the school could use it, why not. If it's being used for non-profit purposes, well, I think they should let it slide really instead of going through all these bravado about legal issues etc.

Schmuks. You would think that with the amount of money that they spend on marketing, they would at least have realised something like this. Oh well, free advertising for Unix I suppose :D
