I am guessing that from the announcement on the 19th that the payment was "Active Directory Services" or whatever it is called. See www.sco.com and look at the last few news items!

If SCO think that they have the ultimate WEB platform running on their UNIX servers then why do they run their web page under linux!... For those who can't reach their mouse button to click this here is what it says...
The site www.sco.com is running Apache/1.3.14 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.7.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6 PHP/4.0.3pl1 on Linux.

And by looking at this page at SCO this got quote a lot of awards from their distribution of Linux. Can you imagine their awards page from now on... (I am guessing it won't be changing for a while!)...
I do wonder what any of their larger customers using SCO's linux distribution are thinking right now! If SCO do give up on linux they are going to annoy a lot of their clients...

PS. Thought this was funny still being on SCO's Partner page...
IBM offers the industry's most comprehensive lineup of solutions for Linux®. IBM's efforts to advance Linux stretch back to 1998 and signify an unrivaled show of support via technology, skills, services, and corporate focus. With the industry's largest portfolio of hardware, software and services for Linux, IBM support continues to expand, allowing more companies to leverage Linux to grow their e-businesses.
As soon as this court case gets going any code they show as being part of their IP will be replaced within weeks (I think that the likes of IBM/REDHAT/SUSE/MANDRAKE/LINUS T. etc... will all team together to do this as fast as possible!). And because of this I don't think that MS will "buy" (Not licence as they have done so far according to the topic header) SCO's IP as the minute the Linux comunity removes this IP the licence will not be worth anything to MS.. Unless they already have some of that IP in windows and/or They intend on using some of that IP..
Only time will tell but I think it is going to be an interesting fight!

Had to chuckle when I saw this. I remember the pains of having to start from scratch when this happened to me.... At least it was a quick job and linux gained an extra 5Gb of space on my laptop from where Windows ME once lived!
Why is it as soon as people have something bad to say about Microsoft hardware/software (Yes I know this is not made by microsoft but the core of the product is! WinCE connecting to WinXP) everyone starts shouting about bias against microsoft.
If this product was designed to work with linux and had the same limitations (1 User per PC locking the main PC so that couldn't be used. Crap connection setups.) then I am sure that everyone would be shouting how crap linux & the product is.
The fact it that this product does use microsoft software and does have the limits stated in the review (Yes I know it is not a tablet for all the tablet-police reading!).
I agree. If this thing had VNC or an X-client you could start with the login screen to be able to run as any number of users and then run whatever applications that are on the main computer. If it supported compression I suspect it could be quite a nippy little machine.
And best of all this could all be done even while another user was using the main computer without them even being aware of another user logged in. (In fact a fairly powerfull machine could probably handle quite a few of these devices without too much trouble).
Maybe if the machine could be hacked (I guess it can be as the IPAQ ran WinCE and could be updated fairly easily) then I would consider buying one but while it is stuck with MS-Windows this "remote display" is nothing more than a paper weight.
AND YES I KNOW THIS IS NOT A TABLET-PC before I get the stream of replies as most messages seem to of had.
it's my homepage too! And only because it is FAST and un-bloated. You can guarantee that the microsoft version is going to be bloat city with loads of fancy graphics/logos/adverts?(for other microsoft services anyway!) and the results tucked away in a small window somewhere.
I agree. Along with the AtariST (Crap in comparison to the amiga personally!).
When I got my first PC after having an amiga it was like going back 10years in computing when using Microsofts offering at the time Windows 3.1. God that was a crap interface. The amiga's interface was so much more powerfull & faster. Huge colour icons. A fairly descent shell. Good documentation on everything down to the hardware level..
..the next Microsoft Vulnerability is used to DOS everything? I am not saying this is a bad idea but after the last few days of problems I can see this system falling flat on it's back which is worrying when the introduction mentioned 'save lives'.
has anyone been able to download this? I have tried with various browsers/download managers and it seems like the files just don't exist (for all platforms..)
Ha..I am glad I wasn't the only one that did that!. I used to work for Tandy (The UK division of Radio Shack) and got so fed up of being told you have to get ~90% addresses. I dredd to think how many times family members were entered onto the system because I was so fed up with asking everyone for Name&Address when all they bought were some fuses or the odd (overpriced!) LED's
I agree with a comment earlier about how they used to stock all sorts of component items (A few followed me home too occasionally...) anyway then they slowly stopped that and started selling just overpriced items (most of which always used to come back within a few weeks with problems) and the computers they sold were a joke. The number of times kids used to come in and format the hard-drive for us...
Glad I left that job!!!
Anyway most of the stores seem to of closed now.. I wonder why!?!?!?!
Why is this modded down? This is exactly how the modem in this remote works as I have one too.. Anyway it is quite a good remote as it has been able to learn all my remotes (Previous one-for-all remotes always had one remote that it just wouldn't learn!). My only complaint about the remote is that you can't customise which buttons appear. I would of prefered to hide buttons which are not relevent to my setup.
Other than that it does look cool the way it fades in and out in use.
But at this rate the US goverment will be the only goverment in the world supplying this backing.. Just look at the various news items about how goverments want to get away from Microsoft licences & costs and looking at Open Source..
Eventually the US will lock it's self out by supporting microsoft and it's ideas when the rest of the world is using open source and different file formats.. Do you really think the Microsoft Office will ever support Open Office files in their native format?

They do appear occasionally it's just that you can't see them for all the Microsoft patches...

The reason for this is that MS would prefer developers get it right first time rather than release buggy products and endlessly patch them.
Nice idea just wonder when they will get around to telling their OS development department this idea!?!?!
