I have read a lot of the comments in here but I have yet to see this point being made. Its NOT about the Gig of storage. I moved to Gmail because of the Google Search Engine - I moved to Gmail so I could search my email fast and easy. I moved to Gmail because it made my email relevant again. I don't to have to copy the text of every prior email in a conversation every time I send a reply - that just makes things bulky, hence Gmail's conversation thread - LOVE IT! I don't want to have to search email by email to look for that one tiny bit of information that I KNOW I received in an email a long time ago but can't remember when and exactly from who - hence the Gmail Search. And for those that think that gmail does not have Integrated Groups - http://groups-beta.google.com/ if you are logged into Gmail you got yourself personalized groups. For those that thing that gmail does not have customized news - news.google.com if you are logged in you can customize your preferences on news. For those that think that google does not have a "Briefcase" like yahoo - http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm Gmail Drive.
You ask why? I here is my $0.02 worth. Because I don't want to have to cary my laptop with me when I go on vacation. I take my laptop because I can then take all the pictures I want and then offload the pictures at the end of the day to my laptop. If you don't have a way to offload the pictures you take then you either have to have tons of memmory cards for your Digicam or are limited to the number of pictures you can take. I take my laptop with me on every vacation I take because I have to - not because I want to.
You don't have to beg - drop me a line at brainstomp at gmail dot com with your email address and I'll give you an invite if you still need/want one.

With the problems that the DoD has had in the past with Cell Phones with Cameras I wonder if this will get them even more scared of such technology.
Imagine if they freaked out over 1Mega Pix cameras because they could take FUZZY pictures of classified docs - This kind of technology will send the DoD over the edge. As it is right now Cell Phones with cameras are prohibited in all classified environments (at least byt the NAVY that I know of).
A Cell Phone with this kind ouf tech could be banned from the ENTIRE base/post/shipyard etc. One of the things that the drill into your brain in the service is that over time a bunch of little bits of unclassigied data can be made into a very informative report that borders on the classified.

Had this happen not too long ago. Simple We walked out & formed our own company. The old employer realized that they could not stay afloat without us and contracted us do do the same job as before through our new company. The results - Limited work hours (read 40-50 hours/week instead of the insane bull of 70 to 80), More money (even after we pay taxes, FICA, etc.), our own company (we hold equal shares), and more contracts from other places that needed the same kind of service. The down side - we where living in VERY thin budget for ab out 3 months while it all got setup and settled down.
The possibility of this actually happening is SO unlikely that is hardly worth a discussion â" I suppose that with the same line of thinking then the HDTV spectrum should be re-assigned to other uses as well? Never mind the interference of frequency usage in the border areas (unless you can get the Canadians and the Mexicans to also agree to do away with analog TV signals) I mean lets say that in some hypothetical idealistic world the FCC turns those frequencies over to some other use â" people living the border cities would be screwed with interference on those frequencies from the transmissions from across the border that the FCC just canâ(TM)t control. I can see it now â" âoeMan killed in a tragic accident related to the former TV spectrum being used in a remote controlled personal airplane guidance system. Apparently the man did not realize his proximity to the Mexican border â" The black box tape reveals that the last thing that he heard was the voice of âoeLa India Mariaâ on one of her many funny skits.â

Not to be too much of a pessimist but lets face it. The mobile market is dominated by Intel. I would love to buy an AMD based laptop when it comes time to replace my current trusty Dell 8100 but Who will make the laptops with these processors? Certainly not Dell, HP, IBM or the likes of any Tier 1 supplier that wants to keep on receiving their share of the Intel Processor Yields. When I went looking to replace my old laptop a year & a half ago there was not a single tier 1 hardware maker that would dare put out an AMD based laptop in the market in fears that they might make mad the bear that Intel is. Until the industry stands up to Intel in the same way that they need to stand up against M$ this will continue to be the case. Simple enough to ask (This is a serious question) What if any current Tier 1 hardware manufacturer sells any Athlon based system for "Office" use? What about "Home" use. I dare say that the Home is the only one likely to have an answer. Are laptops devices mainly used in an "Office" or a "Home" environment? (Meaning you don't buy your kids a laptop to do their homework on, but you do have a laptop to "extend" your office to outside your place of work.).
Like a label is going to change anything! I mean cigarettes have had "Surgeon General" labels on them for decades and IDIOTS still sue the tobacco industry because they "got cancer after the smoked for their lifetime". You put a label on the CD and in 10 years I'll sue the RIAA because I am addicted to Music & can't stop, "I am broke because I have to buy CDs, I can't help it they are addictive".
Are you kidding me? Sure IBM and the rest of the pack can make computers this sturdy. The better question is are YOU willing to pay Millions of $$$ for it? Consider what NASA must have paid for this hardware and then adjust for inflation. I sure don't want to cough up that kind of dough for a computer that will most certainly be obsolete in 6 months.
Only if the speed of the backup is worthy of replacing tapes. I mean Afterall you can get a Tapedrive that will do 400 Meg/Sec backup these days and that is still too slow.

I remember that the Wendy's in PR had the MaxHeadroom Cups you could collect but almot noone I knew "Got It" only a couple of Ricans that had come back from living in NYC even knew of the Max thing.
