Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one who could have sworn he saw a commercial for this show on network TV.

Is it being shown on both?

Not that I truly care, as I don't watch it. Its main problem being it looks not a damn bit like the original BSG, which while corny, I grew up with.

"I think it's a huge error to say he "doesn't have the balls" to write that the movie is crap."

He almost never writes it about any movie, and with the advent of the internet his opinion carries much less weight than it used to. In the old days, thumbs up/down could make or break a film. Now its just another in a sea of opinions, and does not carry nearly as much importance.

. Saying that he is afraid to write what *you* think he should or what someone else wrote is just stupid.

I didn't say he should think what think, I just think he has no spine for the most part at all. Perhaps its the fact that are tons of reviewers out there now who both write better, and have the courage of conviction, which your beloved Ebert doesn't anymore. I'm sorry I've somehow hurt your feelings, but calling me stupid for it is rather hypocritical and childish on your part.

i suppose I was more or less talking about the thumb's up or down which once meant something. As others have mentioned on here, he's written glowing reviews of some pretty crappy films, regardless of the star rating you're trying to hammer me on.

and as well, he doesn't have the balls to actually write "while better than the last 2, its still crap" like the author I previously linked to.

like others, i prefer to read the barometer at rottentomatoes.com and skim the summaries to avoid any spoilers.

of course, people are going to go see this thing anyway, and i will as well, just to see how its all wrapped up.

Absolutely. He has been slipping quite a bit lately. This review from Salon (required to watch an ad to read the whole thing) seems to put it like I think it might wind up being:

I suspect this picture is pretty close to what fans were hoping for, and for their sake, I'm glad it's markedly better than the two that preceded it. But "Revenge of the Sith" is still crap

and by the way, Ebert has been giving more and more "crap" good thumbs up lately. That's one of the reasons the late Siskel is missed--he balanced Roger out, and when they both gave a thumb's up, it actually meant something.

  5. Re:Generally Speaking on Newest Star Wars Reviews Suprisingly Positive · · Score: 1
Perhaps, but if I'm actually interested in seeing a movie these days, I won't read the reviews until after I've seen the movie. These days, reviews share something in common with my beef on trailers--giving away too much. Maybe not in the Star Wars case where we all have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen, but how many times have you seen trailers that give away the funniest line, or show the best action sequence, e.t.c.?

Reviews are doing the same thing these days, and some include major spoilers, although many contain minor ones. If I'm going to give a film a chance, I'd prefer not to know the wittiest line ahead of time, or the neatest view, or whatever.

What I will do is go to Rotten Tomatoes and scan both the freshness ratings and the synopsis. That way I get a general feel for what reviewers think without having to worry about spoilers.

That, and it eventually gave me other problems related to overheating (remember, I didn't build the box). I finally chunked it, learned to build my own thanks to arstechnica, and went to an AMD Athlon 600 which I've been running right up until last week. (hey, I use xbox for games)

Another one was called All in the Family, based on a UK show called Till Death Do Us Part. Norman Lear, producer of both, seemed very adept at adopting British comedies to American audiences

Slightly off-topic, as I am saddened more by PBS seeking to go with modern trends than PBS not being able to use the F-word.

Like many here, I spent my time with Sesame Street and Electric Company, and then of course Monty Python, Nova, Sagan's Cosmos, Dr. Who, and many more.

These days Nova is like "Science For Dummies", and PBS has its own versions of Reality Shows. Thank god for Red Green reruns combined with British Comedy reruns. The occaisional Nature show is still allright, but its getting more and more where I can't tell where the music video stops and the science is supposed to begin. Even that miniseries on String Theory started out good and then petered out.

Now we top it off with the need for "gritty" cop shows that use realistically foul language.

To me the decline of PBS is a much more sad affair then whether or not the FCC will let them curse.

There's a VERY easy solution--Go to file>>database>>Properties. Then go to the "rocket ship" tab (sorry, but most people who have these troubles need pictures). Then choose "Restore as last viewed by user" under the "When opened in Notes client" option.

Well, that's a personal aesthetics, issue, as well, if you have a programmer/developer worth his/her salt, its a very EASY scripting fix.

It sounds to me like your frustration stems from some misinformation, and a lack of a Notes Developer. The Notes mail template is very easily customized, so quite a few options seem to have been left in a manner you don't care for, but with customization could be fixed.
