  1. Consumers need to negotiate terms on Tracking Traffic Jams With Cell Phones · · Score: 1

When our presence, our body is being used for commercial gain we should be getting a cut.... a kickback for opting in to be a part of the service. Cellular companies nickel and dime us to death with various 'services' that should be part of the standard package and then they get to resell us as data to some 3rd party without giving us something back??? They bought one for themselves, one for their significant other, a shuffle for the youngest, a nano for their daughter and then went and bought a new video ipod when they came out for themselves again. Not to mention all the gift iPods, the giveaways, etc.

To answer the submitter's question... there are software packages like this... and open source / free. Go to Sourceforge or it's work-a-likes out there and look for software download shopping carts.... actually I think that OS Commerce has a plugin for setting up 'intangible' products so that you can keep people from direct linking to the download.

Also you may want to contact Kagi, a very popular shareware commerce provider and ask about rates... they already have a good 'intangible' product commerce offering.

Go searching for "kitten mittens" and you'll probably soon get a top google result (or maybe even yahoo) for www.kittenmittens.com with a search of all pet, cat and novelty item stores and blogs, etc. which may actually help you find what you're looking for more quickly.

  16. Re:well then on Teens Don't Buy Legit MP3s Because They Can't? · · Score: 1

    Back to Mp3s

Typically the things in life you pay for are service and convenience. You want free music? Get together with your friends and make some. Learn the skills, build the equipment, work at the other jobs to pay for it all and start your own label. Then you have the option of giving it away or selling it or just enjoying it for yourselves. You can even set up a password protected web site with a streaming jukebox so all your friends can enjoy the music wherever they are. iPods will play your homegrown MP3s, most other players will as well.

OTOH if you are too busy doing other things you enjoy more or care about more and music is something you'd rather leave up to other people to create and distribute, then don't complain when they choose to sell it rather than give it away. And don't complain when their form of distribution doesn't let you enjoy their music any way you want to at your convenience. OR if they have provided a convenient means to enjoy their music... don't complain that it comes with other limitations and costs money to buy in to.

It is as if the whole world feels that an artist's music is automatically public domain and should be given away in the most convenient form possible.

BTW you can just put MP3s on your iPod... as long as you have regular old MP3s to put on there. iTunes may no longer rip MP3s (is that the case?) for you but there are plenty of alternatives that will do it perfectly, then just drag and drop them into iTunes and sync to the iPod.

I did enjoy reading your post though...

As a 7th grade student I had no experience with the SAT, nor did I read any prep manuals. Later I did read some basic prep manuals and had taken a few test exams before each official test was taken. Granted I had by then gone through most of the curriculum being tested but there were many people I knew from my classes who did not do as well as I and was aware that they did not make any effort to get to know the test....

Intelligent kids but not smart enough to see the underlying question, which is whether you will take the time to understand your endeavor before committing to results of your efforts... which the submitter actually seems to 'get', so I suspect he/she will do just fine.

BTW I never did take the final 12th grade SAT exam.... I didn't want to get a perfect score and get lumped in with 'good test takers' . OTOH I didn't end up going to a University either, preferring to learn my trade by doing and avoiding 10s of thousands of tuition debt and whatever else baggage I may have picked up at the social circus we call higher education. SO instead I applied for internships in 12th grade and worked at various agencies half the day, taking the bare minimum classes to graduate (3 a day) plus earning credits via the work program. YMMV.

I'm pretty sure they are marketing this at execs who have minimum $600 phones and have data worth vast amounts of money in the right persons' hands stored within it.

Also it's not important that it backs up the data... that's a bonus... it's important that it wipes the data on the phone immediately after backing it up.

Think "This message will self-destruct in 10..." but instead of blowing up the phone (which could lead to a lawsuit) it wipes the data and makes the phone really annoying to be around.

IMHO they should not have it activated later "by phone"... they should pair it with a bluetooth card you keep in your wallet or other more secure bodily stored location and trigger it upon disconnect, with the ability to turn it off via a phone call (yes slightly ironic but not as much as having to turn it ON by phone). People don't typically leave a 10 M proximity from their phone at any time.... so it should work pretty well and it could turn off automatically if it comes back into range and pairs up again.

Make a few more smaller seating groups in other areas for team discussions. Finally establish a rule... shhhh be quiet, people work here.
