I don't think you can be judging Jobs for the poor performance of the Motorola processor line. Even with the G4's limitations, the extra time Apple spends on honing the design have left the company with a very capable product. Performance isn't everything.
IIRC, if the web sites include a statement forbidding the collection of prices from their website by bots in their terms of use, they might have a civil case against the company that you hired, but I wouldn't worry about it as the developer of the bot.
When IBM decided to create the open architecture of the modern PC, it really created a nightmare for software developers. They have no way to tell any clone manufacturer what goes in their box, which leads to compatibility problems.
Just look at the hardware timer issue as an example. Every time a new processor came out that was faster than the previous model, all software timers would have to be rewritten. A hardware timer was the simple solution to this. Having a hardware timer on the motherboards costs extra and many vendors have failed to implement this function, even from such recognized brands as Dell. Apple on the other hand has complete control of the user experience, from the hardware to the operating system.
Charging more for one platform than another is what Capitalism is all about. Apple, just as everyone else, charges what the market will bear, no more, no less. They are betting that people will pay a premium for their widget and if you don't wish to do so, you are free to buy your widget elsewhere.
Quarter for a megabyte? Not bad considering AT&T Wireless is raping people with 1-3 cents per kilobyte!!! God damn that is some expensive wireless access.
That's what the little check box on all those web sites is for. Now that I think about it, those under 18 can't even enter into legal agreements (isn't that what the check box represents?), so a 12 year old child can check the box, lying and incur no penalty when he or she lied, since the contract is null and void.
I'm not really wanting to go out of my way to test this, but does anybody know if the system hang from an inaccessible mounted SMB volume has been fixed? This bug has been around for a long time now...surely it can't be that hard to issue a timeout?!?
Well not on my Mac, but I've seen this setting in the BIOS of my PC (running Linux, what else?). Where are these floppy disks and why didn't they ever become popular? The setting was even available on my 486, when WordPerfect took like 30 disks (and one was always bad...).

Board certified engineers who wish to put their name on a project are required by law to carry (in most cases quite expensive) liability insurrency. I'm currently a CE major getting ready to graduate. If there was a test I could take to earn a stamp that I could use to affix my name to a project, I'd be all for it. Yes, the insurrence would be a pain, but by having a person personally responsible for a project just seems to lend that much more credibility. Impropperly designed HVAC can lead to deaths as discussed in the article just as a collapsing bridge or improperly designed roadway can; so what about computer engineers? Poorly designed hardware/software has lead to deaths as well. I would feel better if computer engineers are certified just like the MechEs and CivilEs.
This is getting pretty OT by now, but I just think of this great idea from George Carlin. Someone said that they'd rather have their kids see two people making love than killing each-other. George Carlin wanted to extend that by replacing the word kill with fuck. Think of all those old movie cliches..."Okay Sheriff, we're gonna fuck ya now. But we're gonna fuck ya slow."
Calling the company works well enough for faxes, but it's a shame that spam can't be stopped so easily. Most of the time email addresses are shut down before you can "unsubscribe" and a lot of the opt-outs are just confirming your email addy...so sad...
The keyboard navigation has always been one aspect of WinDoze that I like over Mac and Linux. Too bad Micro$oft is trying to phase that out now. Keyboard underlining is now off by default. Next version I bet it's even harder to find...
To me, the people who purchase the devices are just as responsible for their actions as those who sell the devices. Both know that their activities are illegal and continue anyway. Everyone is responsible for his or her actions.
If I tell you to commit murder and you do, am I responsible? How about if I stand up on a soapbox and hand out guns to a crowd, telling everyone to commit murder? Those who are accepting the guns and pulling the triggers are still moral agents responsible for their actions.
From the description of the device, it sounds like they are selling a $10-$200 diode worth about three cents. What makes a diode legal in one use and illegal in another is it's intended use.
From the DMCA:
No person shall manufacture, import, offer to the public, provide, or otherwise traffic in any technology, product, service, device, component, or part thereof, that...is marketed by that person or another acting in concert with that person with that person's knowledge for use in circumventing protection afforded by a technological measure that effectively protects a copyright owner under this title in a work or portion thereof.
Now the cable companies are free to blackmail those who have used the devices. Pay us X number of dollars or we will turn you over to the police...

I'm not even going to begin to defend this article. More than likely it is fraudulent, but I think that there is a larger issue here. Microsoft does not go out of their way to make it easy to report bugs. Phone tech support and you have the privilege of paying to report that bug.
Think of the stability increase if Microsoft had something similar to the bug tracking software on SourceForge. What about hosting some forums that users could discuss problems? Users helping users, etc. I know that they have mindshare and all that so don't really *need* to make rock-solid apps, but they'd clean up their image as well as improving the lives of the millions of people who are frustrated with their software.
The 32,000 song max is a limit of the Carbon list manager (it uses the 'short' data type for the number of rows). Either Apple will have to update the Carbon framework or move over to the Cocoa framework, which if memory serves, does not have this limitation.
Maybe I missed something, but why do the requirements put this elevator in the middle of the ocean? Does it have to do with international waters or something with how it is anchored?
Was meant as a joke more than anything else. It just seems that anytime Apple releases anything now there is some guy that complains that Apple hasn't added tabs yet. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Frankly I don't care. If I want tabs, that's what Chimera is there for.:)

As a current resident (not for long suckers!), I can attest to that!

I know modding the previous as -1 can't remove it from the discussion, but is there any way to get rid of this sort of behaviour?

It stood unresponsive for 5-10 seconds, then the volume just disappeared and without a word from the Finder, everything was back to normal.
They did fix that nasty hang when browsing an SMB volume that is suddenly disconnected.
