That really sucks. I can certainly sympathize with you. OTOH, with all due respect, it's your fault. Why in the world didn't you back up your music? Even worse, why did you agree to sync your iPod with your reformatted iBook when you knew it was going to erase the iPod? There are a number of applications that allow you to retrieve songs from your iPod. If you're lucky, you might still be able to get some of them off the iPod. Good luck!
"More divisive than ever"? It's still nowhere near perfect, but I can't agree with that. You must be joking about the "melting pot" thing. This country has never been a true melting pot; if anything, it's more like a salad that hasn't been mixed very well.
Furthermore, melting pot probably isn't a realistic (or even desirable) goal. A properly mixed salad would be ideal IMO.
With all due respect, I think it flew right over your head. The full line says, "It is our goal to help the Latino community bind together and let our voices be spread." IOW, coming together will give them a stronger voice so they can argue for equality. That's a formula that's been used throughout history for many civil-rights issues.
Honestly, the only truly bad casting decision was Halle Berry (and even that gets a pass since, well, she's fine). You acknowledged Wolverine, but Xavier, Nightcrawler, Colossus (even in a small part), and especially Magneto were all excellent. I'm not surprised we disagree though, because I think X2 was a much better movie than the first one on every level possible. It really captured the essence of the X-Men. At any rate, Nightcrawler's attack on the White House and Magneto's escape from prison are magnificent; those two scenes alone are worth the price of admission.
There isn't a "Caucasian Review" because Caucasians are the only group that doesn't have to worry at all about lack of representation in the entertainment field.
That's outstanding news!
On another note, the Netscape portal made a key contribution of its own. Remember, it was the first major site to use RSS. I used "My Netscape" for a long time just for that reason.
As shocking as it may seem, there are people who don't know what EQ2 means... even ones that read Slashdot. Maybe it's because I've had a long day or because I'm part of the "games are for consoles" crowd, but I had no idea what game that is until I read some comments. It wouldn't hurt to mention it's the sequel to EverQuest in the summary if the official name of the game is EQ2.
As to the nominal topic... while I personally prefer Windows (or KDE as a passable second choice), and I detest the Mac interface, I *do* like BSD. If I could run OS X on x86 hardware, I'd be far more inclined to give OS X a chance to prove itself.
I'm just curious -- how do you know you really prefer Windows and detest the Mac interface if you haven't given OS X a chance to prove itself?
Yeah, but the point stands that you can get a good-performing, stable, and expandable x86 minitower for about $1000, and Apple simply does not have a model which compares.
Apple does have a comparable model... as long as you accept that a machine can be expandable without being a tower or having PCI slots. Firewire and USB 2.0 offer a great deal of expandability -- hard drives, burners, etc. (after all, that's how we laptop users do it). That won't satisfy some users, but it's certainly enough for a great deal of them.
Well, now that I think about it some more, "floundering" wasn't the right word. The first appearance of Barry Allen (Showcase #4) was the start of the turnaround, but it really kicked into high gear when Marvel got involved.
You missed my entire point. The comics industry was floundering when Fantastic Four #1 was released in 1961. The popularity of that book and those characters (along with later ones like Spider-Man and the Avengers) revitalized comics (including DC) and led to what is arguably the industry's most successful era. IOW, FF is like the NES of comics. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the others might have faded into obscurity if it weren't for the FF.
Isn't this just like the Justice League series on Cartoon network, with Marvel characters? Wow, They're original.
A FF cartoon may not be all that original, but the FF is the group that put Marvel Comics on the map and revitalized the entire industry. Even Superman, Batman, and the rest of the Justice League owe a great deal to the Fantastic Four.
Alright, that's only relevant to those artists who NEED a huge marketing machine behind them. There are plenty, PLENTY of good solid music producing people who can succeed on their own merits, given good enough distribution.
But the problem is getting good enough distribution without the huge marketing machine.
Tell me about it! The loading times are painful if you're used to the original games. I'd still recommend playing FF4, Chrono Trigger, and especially FF6 though -- they're all great games.
I said "try to stop," not "sue." AFAIK, Apple hasn't sued Real; they merely said they were looking into it. They also mentioned that future updates might break the Real compatibility. Obviously, they have no obligation to support technology they explicitly rejected.
Upon further reflection, Real doesn't have anything Apple wants, so I guess the situations aren't exactly the same.
But you said he was going to charge them. No where did he say that.
He said it right here:
Glaser: We would be happy to cross-license our DRM and formats to Apple to enable exactly the kind of interoperability you propose.
"Cross-license" implies, at the very least, that Apple licenses from Real in exchange for Real licensing from Apple. IOW, he's willing to discuss the Real stores on Macs if Apple is willing to discuss Real DRM on iPods. Obviously, they've already had a discussion on the latter, so they know Apple's answer.
He says that he'd be happy to discuss licensing, but he doesn't say "... or else we'll DMCA their asses." which is what you're implying.
Apparently, Apple was happy to discuss licensing with them. When Apple decided it wasn't in the company's best interests and refused the offer, Real went ahead and did it anyway. If the situation were reversed, do you honestly believe Real wouldn't try to stop something they explicitly declined?

Finally, a smartphone I can take seriously! Too bad it won't be affordable for another three years...
Once again, Apple offers a better alternative.
The main reason people aren't paying for software because hardware's too expensive? WTF?

Yeah, I already realized I made a mistake and mentioned that earlier. Thanks, though.

On one hand, this is going to make it much easier for plagiarists. OTOH, it's going to make it much easier to catch them.
(Classic like "Airplane!," not classic like "It's A Wonderful Life")
