Look, you idiots, go volunteer your time with the EFF or something, better yet, a soup kitchen.
It takes, what, 3 seconds at the fastest rate to skip over a few minutes of commercials? You're not even on that screen long enough to read an ad. If it keeps TiVo (the service with the best interface) out of the dustbin for a few more years, then shit, go for it.

Good point. You could back up to a file and then burn that onto a CD, or a series of files. Not elegant (and not the way it's intended to work), but it's a workaround. Especially if you have a good firewire external drive.
An Xbox or PS2 (and soon, PS3) or GameCube are all sub-$150. Why even bother gaming on a lowly computer?

Or maybe EMC could sell the Mac side to Apple.
But it sounds like you've got a problem with your drive. Retro is typically a canary in a coalmine for hardware/network issues. About the full backups, if you haven't set it up correctly, it will try to do a full backup every time.
I was wondering if it was the two-day format (can take one day off, but not two) or that the bands were a bit older, appealing more to the "gotta take off work" crowd than the "neato, this is during my summer vacation, I'll borrow $100 from mom and dad" crowd.

How much gas do they waste driving around in circles vs. how much plastics are needed? All motor racing should be banned. And shoe soles made out of petroleum products. And javelins. And discii.
I don't need TV listings, cable provides them for free
Okay, this is kind of a troll, but how much do you pay monthly for cable? I know I pay $42 for expanded basic from Comcast out here in CO and that's not free, sister. If it's that "TV Guide" channel, I'll guarantee you that your cable company is paying for that channel/service, which means you're paying for it too. I count $42 because you can't a la carte it. If you're talking about the guide on your digital cable box, well, you're paying $5/month for that "free" guide.
The TV guide I get in the Sunday paper is cheaper than that.
I understand your point, but I've yet to see a device that's as good at what it does (PVR functionality) as TiVo. If someone creates a better UI, I'll think about changing to another device.
No, not AOL TW, *just* AOL, therefore giving MS the huge online presence they've never been able to corner. (MSN, anyone? CRAP! I say) TW is looking to pare down to their core competencies, magazines and movies. They've recently sold off Warner Music, I believe, also.
And if this deal goes down, you can thank the millions of dollars thrown around in back rooms. I can't believe this would ever even be thought of by MS, but they've got some huge balls. The operating system monopoly with the Internet service provider monopoly? (I know there are other ways of getting on the Internet and so do you, but does Billy Ray and Sheila down in Podunk? Besides, 35 million subscribers is not a drop in the bucket, either) Sheesh.... Do you need any more proof that this is a Bad Idea (tm)?
This is what's known as a "loss leader", as in, "We're taking a loss on this product to lead you into the store and hopefully you'll buy other items." Like when I bought the new Blink182 CD at best buy for 10 bucks, but rememberd I wanted the Christmas Story DVD, too. It was also on sale for $20, but I don't know how much they were losing on that.
If you have a friend that's a developer - with all the kids that could buy iPods, I'd almost think that Apple wouldn't have them for edu discounts and just make as much money as they could.
But I'm also not sure of the developer discount restrictions.
If you're caught and convicted of driving drunk, take the license away for (at least) 5 years! I know this is how it works in some European countries (I want to say Sweden or Norway...), so why don't we do it here? Yes, we're Americans, married to our cars, etc. But if you knew you could lose your license for 5 years if you got caught, I'm sure that would more than deter most every person who spins the wheel from driving drunk.
Last time I checked, having a license to drive a car was a privelige, not a right.
But you can't farm it out to the school itself? Or have an undergrad that *is* a premier software development school take up the task, just for educational purposes and have the work done for free, which is still cheaper than India? And how many IT workers/programmers in America would have worked on it for free for a resume builder and to be able to say that they contributed to such a cool project?
Besides, in the article it gives the reason why they went with Microsoft, which isn't very heartening either. I'm not saying MS is bad, I'm saying that they seem to have made..."interesting" choices.
Going off the assumption of course that half a day had gone by when I noticed said item was missing, but I am really tired lately. Can't imagine what Thursday will be like. Might as well just have the turkey and red wine delivered to me in bed!;)
Then each pile goes into a box, which is kept in the basement until they leave.
I have a similar storage scheme, but unfortunately, due to "out of sight, out of mind" it typically doesn't come up from the basement until I notice I'm missing something and then it turns into a half-day "find-fest", at which point it's then bedtime and I forgot what I needed said item for in the first place.
I was going to suggest something similar, along the lines of "well, we've got a couple of weeks to get this done ourselves", but I suppose it's all about that "storage" thing. What we need to do is all download about 10-100 songs and then make them available via Kazaa or something, 24 hours a day.
I'll leave it to someone else to decide which songs who downloads. Just let me know which ones whenever you get it figured out.
This article shows that this piece has been in the courts before.
this book and forget about dumb social studies?
So, instead of posting this story or whining about it, the whiners should be writing to TiVo with alternatives.
Or better yet, writing their Senators urging them to vote against the bill, as I did last night, to Sens Allard and Campbell.
