    1) Many games already do that. The guns just sit on the floor when dropped by an enemy or on a pedestal of sorts.

    2) Agreed.

    3) Check out Thief3:Deadly Shadows. I was really happy to finally see my body when I looked down. With today's graphic qualities, there's no need to have higher and lower detail models for stuff you see all the time (guns, your body) and enemy models and weapons.

    4) Depends on the type of game.

    5) It's just a step in that direction. Surely I love games that don't look realistic, but if people didn't try to make it the most realistic possible, it would have never been developed. It's evolutionary, plain and simple.

95% of the work that goes into getting a CD into your hands was performed by people who are not the artist.

And this work is usually already paid for before the album even starts recording.
Maybe except for the advertising and pushing to radio stations bits, which are really an expensive part. But why to even mess with it? Do like 99% of the artists and just spread the word, gaining publicity by word of mouth and by performing gigs.

I've heard many stories of small bands who sign up to indie labels, make great albums and still make a lot of profit from CD sales, because the label doesn't spend it all on ads that won't help sales.

  7. Re:legality.... on UK Record Companies Suing File Sharers · · Score: 1

Except that 99.99% of the bands/artists in the world DON'T live from music. Most of them have jobs.
And yes, the ARTISTS deserve to be paid. Why do I have to pay a RECORD COMPANY for something they didn't do, but rather the artists?
Not only that, but most bands WANT publicity and want their music to be shared, at least until they get rich and cocky. Metallica, before they became so popular, actually motivated people to share their stuff with their friends, for free. Then they saw it's a cashcow that can be milked, and decided money is more important than music.

Next time I'll think about buying a CD, i'll instead d/l the tracks off the net and send the band an envelope with the CD price in cash.

    Agreed.
This commercial makes you think that throwing things on the ground causes car accidents miles away.

But it's most likely just a generic commercial. There are many generic commercials that show nothing specific (think "people gathering", "pastoralic view of mountains", etc) and then sold to companies who just add their logo.

I've already seen specific commercials used by more than one company (in different countries tho) to advertise different things.

In my many years of buying desktop computers, there was not even one instance where I got Windows pre-installed and surely not paid for it specifically.

Me, like everyone I know (and many I don't), just go to the store's websites, browses for parts, adds up the prices and give that to the store. You only pay for an operating system if you chose to add it to the list. Unless the price for the OS is somehow laden on the computer parts, we don't pay for it. (Also we usually get a 5-10% discount by bargaining, but that's out of the point).

So I guess it only applies to laptops and such?

The difference is that my parents taught me the difference between REALITY and FANTASY and knowing i'm mature enough to handle the games i'm playing. Hell, my dad finished Doom1 on nightmare (and he was over 45 at time).
Want to protect your child from getting hurt? Expose them to the dangers in a controlled way. Teach them why getting into fights is bad, why stealing is bad and why you should use protection when having sex.

Great. Lets compare the graphical qualities of a 4 year old console versus a yet unreleased one.

Graphics are certainly not everything. I have a pretty awesome PC, playing Doom3 very well. Yet I much more enjoyed playing JDoom (OpenGL remake of the ORIGINAL doom) with friends in multiplayer than I enjoyed Doom3. Graphics mean NOTHING.

I enjoyed playing a couple of GBA games more than today's graphic-fests (tho I must say I haven't played HL2, waiting for prices to go down).

Again, "high-quality" graphics mean nothing. It's all about how it's presented.

    2) The game series was always called Pokemon |some color|. Pokemon Red, Pokemon Green... so the newer versions have names like Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl.

Disclaimer: I never played the game myself, but many 16+ friends of mine played the games and enjoyed them greatly.

  20. Thanks parents. on Grandma Sues Over Hot Coffee Mod · · Score: 1

A bit offtopic, but I believe it will help show it's POSSIBLE to be good parents, even without that much parental surveillance.

At the time of events decipted below, both of my parents were working full time. Mom 9to5 and dad from 11to9 extended hours, so I was not under parental surveillance for many hours.

I've been playing video games since I remember myself including a lot of extremely violent / objectional games. Throughout my life, my parents NEVER told me "DON'T PLAY THIS GAME", even though they knew what the content is. (hell my dad finished Doom1 on nightmare, and he was over 45 at the time)
The only thing they did tell me is to know the difference between REALITY and FANTASY. They couldn't stress it enough that games, movies and hell they even refered to pornography are NOT the same as real life.

When I got to age 13 or so, my mom handed me a sexual education book (which I only skimmed thru cuz I knew almost everything before). She then said: "I can't stop you from having sex, when you're ready, but please, think about what you are doing and use protection."
Same with alocohol/tobacco, they said: "We can't stop you from trying, but understand what you are getting into". They explained how bad it can be and specifically for drugs.
I drink alcohol freely, but I haven't even tried cigs or drugs, they just don't attract me since I know how addictive it can be, without even being so "fun".

And it's not like they weren't protective. The first time I went to friends who lived far away alone, they bombarded me with questions. This is because they know actual people can affect me badly. They know people can influence me to do drugs or crimes. This is ofcourse because it is out of their hands.
However, they knew I was smart enough to make the difference between reality and fantasy and gave me a free hand in choosing games to play.

Parents can be smart. Even though they don't know exactly what I do or when, they can be smart and fight the problems by EXPOSING me to all that and showing me through the dangers.
Again, my parents didn't mind me playing violent games and I don't think they cared if i'd watch porn (Tho they never caught me ^_^). They just explained why I shouldn't be influenced by it. Straight to the point, reality is different than games/movies.
