    Yes to nitpick.
    It's written anime, without any "é"s or other wierd letters.
    It comes from the word "animeeshon" (with a long "e") which is the Japanification of the word animation.
    Animation -> animeeshon -> anime.

    And if slashdot allowed me to enter Japanese letters, I could show you the actual spelling.

    I know the music I listen to has a relatively TINY market, yet it's quality material, at least in my eyes.

    3 = san -> sa
    6 = mu, roku -> ra
    1 = ichi -> i

    So indeed he could have made a complete story out of the mnemonics, making it easier to remember.

    Not only that, any culture that uses kanji (chinese characters) as one of the main writing methods has their brains used to memorizing a lot of data. Whether it is directly or using mnemonics.

    I DON'T EVEN WANT TO WATCH DUBS!
    Original japanese voices, in 99.9999999% of the cases, are vastly superior to the american dubbed versions.

    "official" versions have all the text written in a single boring sub style, with no karaoke, no translator notes and nothing to pass the ton of nuances in the original script, which japanese put a LOT.

    And then you get to the "diluted" versions as you mentioned them. There are many japanese shows mainly for children, but have value for older people aswell. When these shows get to the US, they become distilled of all the things that older people like in them. Usually things kids don't really understand, but makes it fun when you do.

    While the video quality is high and the translations are generally good, at many times the fansubs are superior, even in pure quality. Not to even mention the japanese idioms that disappear.

    We've found that for 2 player games, the best is having 3 players. When one loses, the other plays.
    That way no one gets bored by not playing and it's refreshing to not play against the same person over and over again.

    For me, and for others I believe, watching another person playing _well_ in a game is still a lot of fun... it's like watching a good movie.

    And while looking around porn sites, I sometimes stumble upon real CP which can't be classified as over 18 in any way.
    At those times I report those site to ASACP.

    Also, there's a distinguishing between pre-teens and teens. Although 18 is usually considered the age of consent, mother nature attracts people to fully sexually developed children in the age range of 13-18. While I agree that the laws should be followed, this distinction has to be made. Especially in our days, where the average age of starting to have sex in practice goes down quite fast.

    2. Most companies who use commercial software do pay the licensing fees, so no loss of income. However, companies that decide to switch to cheaper, possibly opensource solutions are in fact loss of income for the software vendors. Nonetheless, switches like this are completely legal. So again, no loss of income due to illegal actions.

    The BSA is full of it.
    Those who use pirated software wouldn't have bought it anyways and even if forced (as in bigbrother) to not use a certain piece of software without paying, they would have found alternative applications and still not pay up.
    Those who do pay are getting fed up with the EULAs, crappy software and prices then turn to cheaper alternatives.

    Not only that, but you can design the code to be tolerant to specific kinds of errors, the errors common in the system you are trying to protect.

    For example the CRC error detection scheme, while not cryptographically secure, it is tolerant, for example, to errors which are long streams of 0s or 1s. This is a common error on communication lines.
    Another example is error correction on DVDs. The data is coded in a way that a scratch will be detected for example by keeping the parity bits physically far from the scratch.
    If you hold the parity bits, for example, 10 degrees after the data, a radial scratch will be detected, while logically it'll be near the data, so reads are easy.
