OBDII is standard... only the trouble code references are secret... I have an OBDII scanner... and next year, Pennsylvania is switching over to OBDII-only emissions inspection on newer cars. This pretty much REQUIRES automakers to make the codes known to official inspection stations. Also, I've never had trouble calling my favorite local Nissan dealer to get trouble code references for my Pathfinder. I just don't see what the big deal is..
Don't forget that Microsoft owns 7% of Comcast and holds significant influence in their board of directors... the reason techtv was killed was precisely because they had the cuddly stuffed penguin on the set... and no, I don't mean Leo... hah...
Hahah I love that place. I live about 2 miles from the St. Davids Microcenter... go there all the time. They have a real knack for patronizing and condescending to customers... they know better than to even talk to me... One time, I was looking through the networking gear, checking out various items. Their network "expert" came over and started asking me if he could help me out. That turned out to be the biggest mistake of his life, seeing as how I design networking equipment for a living... like a cat playing with the catch before the kill...
I lived in New Paltz until 1992... and you and I both know that is one f'ed up town... I just had to get away from all the townies and New-York-City-ites that were running the place into the ground. Now I hear they're going to plow over Mohonk to put McMansions overlooking the Wallkill valley... sad... very sad...

I just spoke with a guy in my office who is from Ghana. He explained the plurality rule, as well as the fact that there is no "billion," but rather "a thousand million." I thought that was interesting as well.
Neat, in any case.. me being an American living under the worst unit system on the planet hehe.. I'm surprised we don't use a monetary system that has currency denominations that are neither divisible by each other nor another common divisor.
Oddly enough, Alabama is one of the few states that puts KM markers on the highways... yes... Alabama... scary isn't it?
Damn I have got to stop procrastinating...

Lots of fires are extinguished without getting wet... pouring sand on a campfire, for example... or using dynamite to put out a burning oil well... putting the lid on your flaming frying pan... blowing out your flaming moe... dry-chemical fire extinguishers... the list goes on..
But with RAID5 and S.M.A.R.T. on IDE drives, why bother backing up at all? I know in advance if/when a drive is going to fail, and with the RAID5 array, I can hotswap the dying drive transparently. No fuss...
I have 840GB of storage in my arrays, which means a paltry little 60GB drive won't do squat for me. Even a tape loader is not going to be as large as my array, so user intervention is still required. I'd have to spend THOUSANDS to get a truly autonomous backup solution...
Conversely, my Raid card was $400... I've replaced two dying drives (of the 8, 4x120 and 4x160 in two arrays) in the past 18 months. The replacement was completely transparent and flawless both times. You can't beat a solution like that.
In the US, there will no doubt be a law passed in short order making it illegal for consumers to own any quantum crypto devices. The only people who will be allowed to have them will be the government, and maybe banks, so long as they provide the government with their keys...
When the F did this happen? :)
Seriously, UNIX/Linux/Solaris/etc have GOT to get on the clipboard bandwagon...
Typical slashdot timing...

What a strategy.. screw people coming and going..
Two Ply? Damn, I'd be happy to get government-issue tissue for my SCO stock...

Am I the only one who saw the horrible pun in this subject line?
Do you have to buy a new handheld just because Sony exits? What would be wrong with simply keeping the Sony that you so obviously love?
