Note: This program does not work in Linux. If you are running a Linux box, we have kindly provided you the source code licensed under the GPL for you to run this program that deletes all MP3 files on your computer. If you would please make sure that you compile this program and then run it, we would really appreciate it!
Or alternately, maybe it works in tandem with the BSA to delete any Linux partitions it sees...
The music industry will appeal. The music industry INTENDS to win, however much money they must spend, and however many appeals they must request.
For Those Interested About Leap Seconds In General

The Future of Leap Seconds

This site may be more helpful, especially in clearing up some of the problems with leap seconds (and their ultimate creation of an offset from both TAI and GPS time)
Sorry! According to the RIAA, you don't deserve to listen to such "crap." That's why they took it out of print. Your tastes OBVIOUSLY favor untalented female singers like Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and so forth.
ANY ATTEMPT TO DENY THIS FACT IS A LIE. ADMIT IT! YOU ARE A TEENY-BOPPER. THE RIAA SAYS SO, SO IT MUST BE TRUE!
For those more interested in creating languages of their own, or "conlangs" like Tolkien created, might I suggest Langmaker, Mark Rosenfelder's excellent Virtual Verduria (including his Language Construction Kit), and for those interested in Tolkiens' tongues (such as Quenya, almost unanimously considered the most beautiful conlang created) there is the very informational Ardalambion.
Hope those links will help people interested in the topics of endangered and model languages.
I've gotta agree. As long as the media avoids Linux, that's all fine and dandy (since we'll be left to our own means, and switching to Windows to rip and such will be an "additional cost or burden" for most users. But when they realize that Linux is a market and they start making these so-called "means" (Like they will inevitably do for the Windows market) that restrict the QUALITY of the copy (which is NOT covered by this bill), then it'll be a problem.
On the other hand, if they ignore all the convenient formats (as in that their means will only convert to crappy MP3s, but not OGGs) then they're controlling access to the work.
Alternately that clause can be interpreted as:
"You must use a Sony CD-Player/PC to rip Sony CDs, since they provide such a player."
Which would cause even more problems...
On the whole though, I think that this bill is a very good thing, especially for the mod chip crew, as it allows owners of Japanese games to legitimately install chips because access to their game is being prevented. Linux for Xbox on the other hand has nothing supporting it within this bill, as I'm not sure that fair-use could really be extended to that project int he first place. On the other hand, if Japanese games are made legit in that fashion... Then wouldn't homebrew software be as well?
For those interested, I happen to play the lead male character of Experimental Comic Kotone (Onii-chan) in the scripts and I'm also planning on aiding design of part of the Radio Drama site when relocated. There is a sample script up on the current site for those interested.
That's pretty much what I meant by "Though at the rate the copyrights keep extending, I'm not sure it'd be very different if we didn't change."
Anyway, with that idea you'd invariably get anohter Eldred-type case, this time much closer to contention ("If copyright holders can hold copyright as long as they pay, doesn't that in effect grant copyrights for an unlimited time?"). Though it's true that this isn't exactly true, it's much closer to the fine line between unlimited and limited copyright than the issue at hand with Eldred vs. Ashcroft (The latter you've got Congress at least nominally extending a "limited" time, the former you've got the owner extending perhaps truly unlimited time as long as he's paying up...)
The RIAA is not the copyright holder. The RIAA is simply the trust of companies that represent the corporate execs who mistakenly think they're losing oodles of money in bonuses, etc. Simply because someone got something for FREE!
The RIAA doesn't own the copyrights nor does it create the music. The artists do.
Well, there is ONE non Clear Channel station that halfway decent around here: 92.5 KZPS.
One of the reasons we've got so much Clear Channel here? Chancellor Broadcasting was based in Dallas. And they were subsequently bought out by, yes, Clear Channel.
Oh yeas, and Jammin' Oldies suck.
*sigh* Why can't we North Texans get a half-decent alternative station? We only have one! and that's Clear Channel (thus it sucks)
Is that this would allow certain pieces (Mickey, The Beatles, Lord of the rings, etc.) to essentially never fall into the public domain. Though at the rate the copyrights keep extending, I'm not sure it'd be very different if we didn't change.
There's no way that the program can be finished before 2010 (we'll be VERY lucky to get it by then).
On the other hand, just consider how much of a leap it took to get us from very cursory orbital spaceflight when Kennedy made his speech in 1962 to the moon in 1969.
I'm not saying that it's LIKELY we'd get to Mars in 2010, I'm just saying it's not completely impossible...
On the other hand... If we're supposed to be going to Mars, how come we havent gone back to the moon yet? First things first I say. Back to the moon.
You mean I have to like rap music and despise anime and Nintendo video games? What about all the money I've invested in music CDs and manga from Japan? And in video games that aren't FPSs or aren't on Xbox? Or that are on the SNES or NES? You mean I can't have those any more?
It seems EA has managed (yet again) to find a way to kill one of the few good games they still had in their hands. It's sort of like Midas' touch only the other way aroud: all the gold they touch turns to dung. Maybe they'll get rich selling it, but it won't be with my money.
Maxis selling out to EA was a bad idea in the first place... I certainly don't (and never will) consider The Sims as a Sim game in the classic Maxis sense. Whatever happened to SimCity 2000? SimEarth? SimFarm? SimAnt? Do you see focus on SimCity 4? Noooo... It's all The Sims, The Sims, The Sims... Or games branded under the Sim name but not made by Maxis (e.g. SimCoaster, the new SimGolf, (and yes, I do mean the new SimGolf. Maxis came out with the ORIGINAL game entitled SimGolf, 4 or more years ago...)) Maxis really sold out on that deal... And I hate it all the more. I fortold such doom long ago on the Maxis boards right after the merger had been announced... The ingenuity behind Maxis ended with their purchase.
I would rather show them strength, by sticking together, moving on with our lives, REMEMBERING SILENTLY, but moving on. Let us show the perpetrators of this act as well as those that want to do more than that to us that we are strong, and that we will not be cowed by such events. Let us show them that we do not have any intention of saying "Aw, it's alright. Let's be friends." The crime must be paid in full. Not forgotten.
By not punishing those who masterminded the crime, would you not be helping to FORGET that they did it? Would yo not begin to forget that it ever happened? Let us NOT forget, and let us punish them for their actions.
I posted a reply on Slashdot on an earlier story that mentioned the Interplanetary Internet and came up with my own answers:
Let's see here... Depending on what point in the orbit, seems to me that the ping time would be anywhere between 6:04 (Mars is 182 light-seconds (54.5 million km) away at its closest point) and 44:38 (It's 1339 light-seconds (410.3 million km) away at its furthest point). So yes, that's minutes:seconds.

The Summer Institute in Linguistics has a much more comprehensive list of languages in their compendium entitled the Ethnologue (Available for perusing online.

That it'll work with all stereos and Macs and PCs... Except those that run Linux?
There's no way that the program can be finished before 2010 (we'll be VERY lucky to get it by then).

Very nooooooooooo!
Maybe they were just looking to play SimAnt against the computer AI?
Of course not! I have all those games... And I run one of the few remaining sites that talks about them all (as not updated though it may be)
