If I recall correctly, openbsd's default install often has some of the inetd services running, but there's not much useful from it (daytime, discard, date, etc.).

Only time I'd download a song just so I can listen to it more and 99% of the time I buy the album of that artist I heard the song from. I have well over 520 CDs stuffed under my bed and still going. And yes, Moby's new album isn't very good.

Are you poor or something? RAM is cheap to get, most of us has well over 256MB in our systems these days. And don't forget this is KDE2...resource hungry, of course it wants adequet RAM to operate smoothly.
On another note, I already tried this ISO and it seems to freeze the system at a certain point (I'd have to look at the last line again) but it's right after "Plug'n'Play" section. I already run NetBSD on this system (it's a Duron 900, 256MB RAM), suppose the GENERIC kernel has too much enabled to cause this.

KDE3 is already available for Debian as contributed packages, reason being that they aren't in Debian officially because the maintainer has had more important things in his way than to maintain the packages DebianPlanet had the article over a month ago.
Stability is the main key for Debian, for Gentoo it seems cutting edge whether stable or not is the key, I've used Gento 1.1a for a week and it became very easy for me and somewhat different. It is a nice distro, but too time consuming for someone like me when it comes to maintaining packages via emerge (downloading, compiling, etc.), Debian is still my way with apt-get which saves alot of time and when I want to do something from src, I apt-get source package.

Is it just me or is this just really pointless? I don't see any real reason why a BIOS would do any good with this feature. There are some neat BIOS utilities like MSI's LiveBIOS and FuzzyLogic that maintains and upgrades the BIOS over the net from the OS- though it sounds like a useful tool, I wouldn't touch with a 150 mile pole just yet and I still prefer the old fashioned boot from floppy and flash the bios image off the HDD. I think the LinuxBIOS is a cool project, hopefully it can become of some use, I have a busted Slot1 mobo with a bad BIOS that needs an EEPROM burn, I'd like to see if I can get LinuxBIOS on it one day.

NetBSD does not have SMP, but only as a branch in the -current kernel tree just as you see in OpenBSD. Infact, OpenBSD spawned off of NetBSD years ago and both are MOSIX based. A couple of us has gotten SMP working at the kernel-level but at userspace-level it is still useless, I personally think SMP is overrated but is useful in heavy applications such as SQL.
At the moment, FreeBSD does have SMP, but realistically I've found Linux's SMP best on an ix86, that's just my opinion (yeah flame me :) ).

Not only is games cool to support Linux for their games, some companies USE Linux as the platform/OS to develop games in, especially Sony Playstation 2 games. I watch DVD movies under Linux with absolutely no problems at all, even audio syncs just fine. I use mainly Ogle, but there's Videolan, MPlayer and Xine, among several others. I don't know what kind of hardware you have or such, if you have an older Celeron or Pentium 2- you will definately need a decoder card to help DVD playback. But what does this topic really have to do with WineX anyhow?
Speaking of WineX, I even poked at PowerDVD under Wine, and it sure doesn't like to run properly, I have had less luck with WineX than Wine.

  15. security in BSD on A Highly Portable Sandbox Facility For OpenBSD · · Score: 1

I like that idea, though I see would be a more useful thing in Linux or FreeBSD than in OpenBSD. For those of you that use NetBSD, there's an exec denier (restircts specified users from executing things in /sbin, /usr/sbin, etc.) and there's a jail module as well which restricts processes, such as jailing ssh and running top in an ssh session will disallow you to see other processes other than your own - Both of which are kernel modules (LKM).
As for binary-only software in Linux, I don't believe the number of binary only applications will increase very much more other than commercial or restricted licensed apps.
