I can build up a linux server on very moderate hardware if I can prove to my office that it will perform. The solution would need to provide some sort of user interface for managing whitelists/blacklists/bayesian/etc... Also sorting by folder in the Exchange environment. Probably dreaming here, but worth a shot. I don't have huge amounts of time to research/test, so would appreciate imput.

How is this spying on innocent people? I assume the cameras would be placed in areas that are currently and openly video taped (gas stations, political offices, shady apartment buildings, etc). We know there are cameras there and those of us that are not pulling triggers generally feel safer because of them. Cameras without this gunshot ability would have a better chance of incriminating an innocent person. We've all seen those blury black and white shots on "Real TV" "Cops"s, etc where you can hear a loud bang and then shortly after see a small group of people - those tapes give no indication as to where the sound came from and right away make anyone in view a suspect. This sort of thing could actually rule out innocents. This sounds like a step up to me.

An Xbox will not act as a DVR, as far as I know. I use the XBMP to play media from my Xbox onto my television, but the Xbox does not have a TV card needed to capture the feed from the television. This port is very very cool because it allows you to run the app on hardware that is much more upgradable than the Xbox. I will definitely check this out.

I'm not out to rid the world of scum, especially not using jail. Statistically speaking, jail does NOT rehabilitate offenders. Let them be scum and move on to their next scam. I don't let myself fall for traps like that. What this discussion is about is getting rid of spam. If we take spammers money away, they will stop spamming. Simple as that.

  19. Re:Oh yeah? on Ohio Law Could Send Spammers To Jail · · Score: 4, Insightful

Still disagree. Jails are overcrowded. We pay money to keep people in jail. In my opinion, jail should be for violent offenders - to protect citizens from harm and punish the offender. I doubt that most spammers are physically threatening and think that they can safely be punished while they are living at home and paying their own rent.
Think about why they are spamming in the first place - Money. Fair punishment? Take away their money. Use the fines to pay for the legal fees used in hunting down even more spammers. That way, they are paying for their own punishment, instead of us paying to house them.
    Just my opinion.

Years ago, an electronics teacher I had was speaking about refresh rates. He told us that the Windows default refresh rate (generally 60 Hertz) ran on the same frequency that California's PG&E's (gas and electric provider) electricity ran through our power lines. He mentioned that leaving this rate default would cause serious headaches as the monitor would unnoticably flicker in unison with the lights in the room.

Does anyone know if there is any validity to this? 60 Hertz sucks anyway, but this was an interesting theory.
