    That is a whopping 5 miles per hour... you won't be able to swim with many schools of fish - or keep up with that russian sub, unless you are being towed by it. It is neat, but slow.

    Who knows what the motives were at this point. Maybe its just a *BSD user trying to show that linux is insecure, and doesn't want to hurt anyone else. Maybe it's some script kiddie who had an early bedtime and had to go to bed before he got to do any major damage. Maybe it is part of a campaign to discredit linux in general (*cough*SCO). Until more is known, the goal of this break-in won't be known.

    Assuming a DVD weighs approximately 1 lb (Case included) and max weight for a legal semi is 80,000 lbs; max load is around 45,000 lbs of cargo, meaning

    45,000 DVD's x 4.7 GB = total data 211,500gb

    Traveling at 70 miles/hour for say 1000 miles = ~14.3 hours traveling

    14790 gb/hour
    246gb/minute
    4.1gb/second/70 miles hour/1000 miles/45,000 DVD's

    But how many of these were attacks successful on machines without the correct patches? How many were because of scripting problems on webpages? How many were configured incorrectly? Behind poor firewalls? This doesn't break down what kind of attacks they were. You can't make generalizations without complete information.

    i won't be happy until there is no spam at all.... That, or capital punishment. Nothing like deterring spam with a good caneing. Anyone who recieves a copy of the spam gets to give the offender a whack. In extreme cases (porn sent to childrens email address, etc.) the spammer is sent to a federal -pound me in the ass- prison. Don't even ask about what happens for the penis enlargement senders ;)

    As seen on ABC news this morning: the president of the RIAA Carl Sharman?? said that all they had was a list of names and addresses, no ages. I doubt they did a in depth profile search of all the ages of the sharers.

    I would imagine she got caught because of what music she probably shared (N'SYNC, Britney, Christina, etc.) Guess I don't have to worry about being in one of their song searches. the stuff I share on Kazaa is all Indy bands who want to have stuff shared (From personally talking with the band members) - If I do happen to get sued I will fight, because the songs are not copyrighted.

    I also wonder how many people have their entire song library shared by accident, since Kazaa will search your hard drive for media to share if you are not paying attention closely.

    Anyways - I wonder if the RIAA will actually proceed with sueing a 12 year old. Dropping the case on her would be good publicity. Sueing the parent for her childs wrongdoings would be even worse publicity. It's hard to blame a parent who might not even know how to do anything more than email, and yahoo.

    Confused me because I couldn't figure out why Microsoft was releasing bug reports for openoffice. (Aside from the obvious conspiracy theory that Microsoft would be trying to make the competition look bad)

    After every big virus that comes out, I get at least 10 calls saying I think I have this virus. Of course they will pay me, but never will pay for antivirus software though! They think it is a rip-off

    I doubt they will be doing this for people who just got in accidents; this is for further investigation. Much like I got whiplash from the accident, and I can't work; or I hurt my back on the job and can't work (but I can still play baseball!)

    I'm all for it, if they can prove it cuts down insurance fraud (the reason insurance rates have gone up nearly 30% where I work) Anything to save money on insurance (one of my biggest expenses)

    Funny, my boss doesn't care - must be the ruleset I have to block any website with SCO in it. Just hope he doesn't notice that he can't get quotes for his ciSCO stock anymore. Plus it also blocks slashdot almost every day, so he can't see how anti-productive I am.

    Hey, if I had money, I'd be buying it right before each of their teleconferences. Think about it. If I had bought a thousand dollars at a couple cents a piece, and sell at current prices, I'd be doing pretty good.

    Not all investors are stupid. A lot of them are playing chess, and waiting until that king is a move away from being exposed before jumping off. I just wish I had cash to join the game at the beginning. It would be a nice move if you know what is going to happen *cough*SCO Execs*cough*

    I have to wonder if Novell is viewing the Gnome desktop as the base for an administrative desktop. Novell's GUI has been seriously lacking from what I have dealt with. With their recent decision to ship netware with a linux kernel, I think they are slowly moving their product lines to be enhanced linux servers.

    The biggest delay is in the manufacturing and installing of the triple DES 128 bit encryption boards to install. Most ATM service providers have already changed it so that any new ATM has to have the new board installed, and existing ATM's have to be upgraded also. With ATM's becoming more popular, and are popping up nearly everywhere(We have 12 ATM's in a town of 5,000). Makers of the hardware encryption boards are backed up, and the ATM vendors aren't hiring enough bright people to get the work done.

    Most banks are rushing to get security features like this in place, because these are the things that government bank examiners have field days on. Don't blame this on the bank, this is out of their hands.

    Its not really a suprise that they finally got tired of people using the term spam for unsolicited email. Ask anyone on the street what spam is and over half would say email.

    Not very good for their marketing dept. All that has changed is that now companies are using spam in their names as opposed to just it being a generic term.

    Besides just getting the "dignity" of the name of spam back (what little there is) they also get some publicity, and maybe some cash.
