Ya know, something just occurred to me after reading your post. The Google "Personalized Search" thing is annoying (it uses my GMail log-in, so it is always enabled for me), but having a personalized blacklist for searches would be nice, so you could have searches default to not searching myspace/LJ/etc. I will feel really stupid if it already does that...
The first thing that comes to mind is TV. If they watch any significant amount of TV, they will see the western sterotypes of how males and females are expected to act, or, at least, see from commericals what they are expected to ask their parents to buy.
Another possibility is the other children they interact with. Other parents may, intentionally or not, be encouraging sterotypes, which your children would be exposed to through their children. I assume your son is playing sports with other boys who encourage him to play with them.
Or it could be just because that is their genetic predisposition because males and females are different.
I am not sure exactly what else the grandparent would have been referring to, and I am certainly no expert, but that's my two cents.
I thought that on Windows XP the installation of unsigned drivers required user intervention (the "stop"/"continue anyway" dialog that most hardware vendors just say click "continue anyway" in their instructions) while the installations of signed drivers could be down without user intervention because that dialog does not appear. If that is true, then the CD protection drivers would have to be signed or it would be simple to just never install them in the first place.
The Meebo guys just wrote the AJAX front-end (which is rather nice). The back-end is libgaim, which still lacks support for known voice/video protocols. I believe the Skype protocol is closed and unknown. Has some work been done on cracking it?
Wow, that looks nice. I currently use Kerio Personal Firewall which is free for personal use and I believe is similar to Zone Alarm. It has some problems with responsiveness and generally slows my computer down more than I think it should. The fine-tuned file system access control sounds very useful, but I have to wonder about its effect on the speed of my system? I refuse to run active virus scanning because it kills performance. This is not the same, but it is still doing something on every filesystem access, which sounds like it would have huge effect on any operator working with lots of small files (ex. just copying a folder full of text files). Have you noticed any performance problems with that?
It was added a couple days ago, but it is just a CSS trick. By making the checkbox image part of the link, they can change the image when the link has been visited, just like the link color changes. No functionality added, it just looks nicer.
It sounds like that is what Nintendo is planning for the Virtual Console feature to allow. They have not said anything about posting free games, but they have suggested that smaller games (worth less than a $50 disc) could be posted there by indie (or any) developers. Hopefully, they will allow the posting of free games (most likely they will at least support demos), and they will actually follow through on their talk about wanting to encourage indie developers.
Actually, there are eight 64MB (512mbit) Nintendo 64 games that I know of, and there are several 32MB (256mbit) Nintendo 64 games, but your point remains. Even in comparision to the built-in 512MB of flash, most ROMs are tiny.
I understand the privacy concerns with online office apps, but e-mail has to pass through e-mail servers. Your options are either (1) encrypt or (2) let anyone who really wants to read your e-mail read it. And (1) is not a particularly viable option because most people will not be bothered to set up encryption.
It is possible, but unlikely for two reasons. First, as another poster mentioned, autosaved drafts to ensure unsaved data is not lost by some sort of failure on the client. Also, that would require the internal format --> file format logic being implemented in Javascript, when I am sure it would be much better implemented in whatever is being used server-side.
I have not had to handle a virus problem in a while, but all virus scanners I have used support rebooting and running just the virus scanner on boot (sometimes in DOS mode). Now that I think of it, Spybot and Ad-Aware do the same thing, but just run before openning other startup apps.
Or simply clean the rootkit from a different OS. I have BartPE and Knoppix discs for manually deleting files that Windows will not let me delete, even with KillBox.
You are perfectly free to, as a consumer, boycott any stores which do not sell AO rated games and let the companies know the reason why you are not buying from them. (I assume you would have no trouble buying said games from online retailers.)
I am sorry. You are correct. NAT can be useful. I was more referring to residential users being able to easily use p2p apps, VOIP, servers, and direct IM/file transfers.
If we are not running out, then why do I only have one IPv4 address for five computers? I thought part of the idea of IPv6 was that we could get rid of NATs, so we would not have to worry about NAT transversal hacks anymore.
Okay. Several GameCube games support the latter mode. Of course it will not be as good as a real full 5.1 signal, but it is good enough. Personally, I only know three people with surround sound set-ups. Most people just have stereo.
Dolby Pro Logic IIis 5.1, although it is not the same as having an optical or coaxial output on the console. I do not have a surround system, but everyone I know that has used a GameCube with a surround setup says they cannot tell the difference between Dolby Pro Logic II and Dolby Digital from a DVD. Of course, they would be busy playing the game, not listening closely to the sound.

Actually, they do exist.

If this is true, you should have no trouble citing some sources.
SSNs are unique. Names aren't.

That is why apropos is included with man.

You only buy AO games and do not buy game systems?

Ignoring that fact, I want to know where you got the monitor that can display over 400 frames per second.
