Do yourself a favor and READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE. Internet is not broken, people are not trying to fix it. But what they are trying to do is to make sure that US is not the only country incharge of it. They have good reasons, do you want me to list it?

Its sad that Libya doesn't have a marketing team like US government. Mind you, I am not supporting Libya but blindly saying US is a saint is an overstatement at the same time. What if a cowboy in the govt decides to switch off all traffic to China or Iraq; you know if he doesn't do that terrorists have won!

Programming is the real weapon of the war to produce information and sort it

I disagree with that. Programming is probably a part of the weapon, but I would say the real weapon is sharp minds, strategy and the vision to implement it - read "architects". I have seen programmers who can type code at 80 wpm. But they almost always lacked the big picture. They are just that programmers. Not only google but almost all major companies look for that brilliant mind. There is a reason why Microsoft chose to ask riddles in a tech interview. Now whether that is the right way to gauge true potential is questionable. But nonetheless, programming is just like any spoken language (e.g. english), anybody can speak it; but what you need is a great mind to create poetry that influences lifes.

Microsoft is that it doesn't have to...it just has to acquire a company that can. As it's been said ad nauseum here by myself and others, Microsoft isn't about innovation...haven't been for a while...in fact, whether they ever were is a subject for debate.

As you said it yourself, Microsoft just needs to acquire a company that can mount a challenge against Google. But mind you, not just any company. That means Microsoft have to have enough foresight, shrewd busineess sense, a bit of luck and good understanding of the industry and its trends. Before Microsoft, I don't know of any company that solely survived on buying others and expanding. Seems like pretty innovative to me!
