Well yes that is an option. But the idea defies the very purpose any one would be interested in buying Tivo. Lets say if I try to tape a game on sunday and I am out of town for an extended vacation. So when I come back a week later Tivo is gonna say "sorry you're schedule clashed with mine". Wasn't Tivo supposed to solve that problem? I was indeed considering buying it pretty soon but now I will instead look at building myself MythTv box.

I have never gotten any certification, nor has any employer seriously asked me for one It doesn't matter if you have certifications when you can legitimately claim that you have worked >5 years in that particular field. But in case of a candidate who is entry level or has less than 4 yrs of experience these certifications are a way to get you the interview. There are many young graduates who are probably equally qualified for that position. Those certifications are the ones which get you noticed. That was at least my experience.

No more crazy 70-80 coding days. More time for yourself and family during the week and weekends. And if you are one of those lucky people to join a Univ, tons of holidays and vacations. removing religion has nothing to do with making people interested in anything This is definitely going offtopic and I don't give a shit, but you definitely sir are not aware of current situation. When the congress is educating people stupid things like - "AIDS can spread through tears", it is mainly fueled by right or wrong religious frame of mind. Science tells you that AIDS cannot be spread through tears but that is not what our govt wants to hear and tell people. This is not the only example. There are tons of others where people are ready to shove science for that "imaginary friend for adults"

Support as such arises, in most cases, due to ignorance and laziness. Most of these tech support issues can be solved by simply RTFM. Now that is definitely too much to ask of people. How many people actually read the manual when they get their PC or at least when they actually have a problem? This is the reason most companies don't print manuals but just put it on a CD because if they know that they are simply going to save money. Besides if you are savvy enough to pop in that CD and read the docs you'll hardly ever call tech support.

Sad story is that people will spend hours searching for pr0n on google, but 10 minutes searching an answer for their problem is apparently waste of their time

Whoever modded the parent as flamebait is a moron. AFAIK, piracy is probably the best form of advertisement. Let me give you an example. Back in college, my roommate used to visit every goddamn warez site he could find. He downloaded all the softwares and tried them. Didn't matter if he needed it or not. Now he is a consultant where in his job is to suggest which apps to use for a job. Guess what, some of the weird obscure apps found their way to profitability because of this guy.

Now I am not saying that piracy will definitely lead to sucess or will create a career for you like my friend. But my guess is there are lots of guys sitting in their dorm with fat internet pipes just downloading stuff. To me that is advertisement. And besides you don't lose any money there as these guys will never buy the software in the first place but businesses do.
