  1. Results list is horrible on Windows Live Search goes Live · · Score: 1, Insightful

The search results themselves seem fine so the search algorithm looks to be, at least to me, acceptable. But the search results list itself is horrible. There's no scrollbar to speak of, so there's no way to quickly drag up and down through the list. Use the buttons on the right to go up and down by clicking (or dragging for autoscroll), or your scroll wheel, but that's it.

Might be nitpicking, but then again just because you CAN do fancy interface crap like this doesn't mean you SHOULD, especially when it affects the usability.

GTA3 was great, but so was Vice City. It had a period (the 80's) that it could capture, in terms of clothing, music, cars, etc. San Andreas was the one that was the least enticing in terms of an innovative setting. It had some interesting apsects to the gameplay itself sure, but the overall setting wasn't one worth buying the game for.

I think they should have sat on the franchise after VC, until they could come up with a more interesting concept or setting.

I can't imagine true physics in a Mario game. Wait, maybe I can.

Mario tries to jump over a fence, but his foot catches. Small splinters of wood are torn from the wood as he comes tumbling over the fence. He tries to brace himself for the fall, but breaks his arm. Game over.

Or, he tries to buttstomp some shroom and ends up with an impacted vertebrae and shattered pelvis.

"I don't have a good way of judging quality or long-term reliability, so I'm looking at all brands," he said. "And nowadays I believe that most companies have got the quality and technology up to a good level or they wouldn't be in business."

There's the core problem: lack of buyer knowledge, or at least the lack of motivation for buyers to do some proper research before making a purchase. THAT is why these companies are doing business.

When I went to buy a new high def TV, I did research into the technologies available first, then looked at what manufacturers were doing a good job in the technology of my own choice. I eventually settled on a DLP from Samsung, not only because of the quality of the television but also the fact that I wasn't having to sell a kidney to buy it. It was a good balance for me, and not every salesperson will make that choice properly for you.

Part of that decision also was that lesser known brands may or may not be around if say the cheap TV I got from them breaks in a year. The company's support could be unproven, or nonexistent if the company itself fails to prosper. In essence, think of your wallet now and in the future.

Anyway, it worked for me at least, and didn't take a whole lot of time. I did some Googling, talked to some folks at various electronics places including customers and salespersons, and made my own decision about what would satisfy my own requirements.

I agree, but by extension they've made assumptions about how much the end cost will be of the completed product. They can cover their asses by saying they're only making assumptions, but the PR damage is done. Tell the teeming masses that the components add up to 800 bucks and they start to freak out about having to shell out that much, potentially.

I'm not saying it's better not knowing, but Sony executives would probably disagree with me on that given how these assumptions hurt the perceptions of their final product.

In the end, since the reading public in general won't stop reacting to speculative writing, and analysts won't stick a sock in it because their names get published on every gaming blog along with their wild speculations, where are we then? I suppose the only thing we can do as consumers is wait until real information and product is released and judge them on their own actual merits.

That's because Sony has over-promised on what the PS3 will offer.

You mean, like everyone does with consoles? The 360 is being sold at a loss as well, and a fairly large loss. And I'm not going to even get into the current offerings of games and services. This is nothing new to the console hardware scene, and is not a unique issue to Sony.

Again, it's all about pulling numbers out of hats at this point until the MSRP gets announced. Until then, I take everyone's opinion on the pricing with a large grain of salt.
