  1. PS3 a no-show, again? on The 2006 Taipei Game Show · · Score: 1

I'm a big fan of my Playstation 2 and have been holding off on a "next gen" purchase until more concrete details of the PS3 start coming to light. I was hoping this would be the show that does it, given the large area of floorspace Sony gobbled up. I must say it's rather disappointing to hear nothing -- again.

At this point I'm tempted to get a 360 instead, simply because it's out and I can see what games are like for it. I'd hoped the PS3 would be a bit more, you know, THERE by now, but if we have to wait until E3 or later before seeing hands-on gameplay for the first time it's probably not going to bode well for the quality of the console and its launch titles.

I mean being secretive and all is one thing, but this is ridiculous.

  2. Re:ipod (aac or mp3)? on The Future of MP3 and Surround · · Score: 1

Depends on how you're going to use the files. If you plan on only using them with iTunes and your iPod, stick with AAC. If you plan on using them with other devices and players, go MP3.

Personally, I prefer AAC because I fall into the first category. That, and it sounds a heck of a lot better than MP3. I should add, it sounds better *to me*. Everyone's different, but for me when I compare the two "side by side", the AAC version just sounds clearer, and reproduces the audio more faithfully than MP3.

Which only goes to show that review scores themselves are a load of crap really, with the best opinion of a game being your own.

Great and all, welcome to what, 2005 (?) and Steam.

Oh wait, still need to store that data somewhere... the vast depths of the 360's limitless system ram? Or the non-existent hard drives of the Core systems?

I have a 1.7GHz P4 with a Geforce4 Ti4200, and I was able to get the game looking pretty damn nice with a great framerate, even when in a large group with tons of effects. There's a FANTASTIC guide in the EQ2 forums written by a player that explains each and every one of the hundreds of graphics options and what you should set each to according to whether you've got a low end or high end setup.

Worse than the supply of the hardware, I'm starting to see more complaints popping up about the lack of new titles, and how a lot of people are now focusing their attention on the Live Arcade games than store-bought.

Looking ahead, there doesn't seem to be a deluge of games coming out for the platform anytime soon. Well, at least games in the STORE.

I've talked to a few folks I know who managed to get a 360, all of them are kind of embarassed to own a machine as expensive as that and then use it to play the Arcade titles more than the next-gen stuff. They don't say the other games are BAD by any means, just that they've played them through and are waiting for new ones like Oblivion and such.

Sounds, at least to me, that the entire platform's launch has been a stalled mess, and that it will continue to be so for many months to come. I'm still planning on getting one, but I think I'll hold off until there's a larger library of things to play.
