Isn't, by definition, one of the persons involved incorrect, then? There is only one true definition. Deviations from it and thus alternative definitions are caused sometimes due to lack of knowledge. However, in a muddy waters of political practice definition of the established terms (conservative, liberal, etc.) is often twisted by a person or the political party in a totally opportunistic fashion, just to satisfy short-term goals in the current political climate.

This is the reason why we can frequently see completely opposite connotations of the same term, as those who use them are pleased.

Red Hat does. They have offices in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and I imagine Novell is probably migrating good chunk of clients from Netware to SuSE.

I am in NZ and from what I can figure, trouble with 'slow' penetration is twofold - not enough really big companies to get off the UNIX in enterprise market and make more significant impact on the server/infrastructure end and few attempts of desktop rollouts which proved to be difficult to achieve (people not realising that desktop is a bitch to migrate because of the lack of compatibility with VB apps and proprietary office formats).

Still, I can't help but feel that survey doesn't accuratelly represent the current market situation - there's a lot more Linux in production down here than what they claim.

Both are from mailing lists I subscribe to and one of these is definitelly dodgy and hard to pass through spam-filters. So, that article seems to be another in the series of those that serve as a Gates/Microsoft marketing/FUD/whatever. In other words, pure bullshit.
