If his network is fairly secured, Linux desktops would be less headache than Windows ones, if only for not running Outlook.
I would swap with him any day, though. Some users on my freakin' network have trouble creating folders or sellecting printers from the list, let alone installing (any) OS.

Evolution is able to import iCal and vCal files. KOrganizer uses iCal format, I believe, so this does not seem to be a big hurdle. Granted, I haven't tried this, so it's only in the areas of speculation.

I don't quite share your views. Having Exchange mailboxes limited in size, as is the case in a company where I work, forces you to use Personal Folders locally - people are just too lazy to save file attachments where they normally should be saved and sometimes keep all that stuff in their mailbox even if they saved attachments elsewhere. The most frequent excuse is that they 'need history of what was sent and when' but they never really look at that shit again. So, it's exactly like on that screenshot.

But I do not want to use Outlook at all. Evolution or Mozilla will do just fine for say, everybody. Plus, talking about free/FREE - why is everybody prepared to pay big bucks to Microsoft or Oracle but not to some other company for said Outlook connector, if they really want to use Outlook? That would be heaps cheaper option.
Not to mention the fact that you have to choose an Aussie as your backup scrum-half.
That's about the only thing that worries me at the moment, actually. Marshall is too slow - allows for a lot of pressure on Carlos and then wings don't get all the space they would if Stevie was half-back.
But if you add GNU on top of it, eg install one of many freely available distributions, mosts of the 'small company' business problems can be handled (software technology wise) for free.
The ball is not just in my court, it's also in the court of my employer
Right. Because your and your employer's court are actually the same one. I'd hate working under any other circumstances. Most of us will work for ~40 years, that's a long time to spend in own, isolated court. I'm with you.
I'd say talking with his manager would be just more wasted time. Sounds like that particular manager doesn't care much, since this underapreciation is going on for a while. Perhaps he needs to speek with someone much higher in the hierarchy, all the way to the person whose signature means salary increase.
I haven't pulled this out of my ass - I was in a pretty similar situation until few months ago. After many failures to get a decent response, single email to CEO (I would have asked in person but CEO is in different country) solved the problem.
It seems to me that most mid-level managers share, to me unexplainable, mentality of only taking care how not to upset executives. If you are one of us, unfortunate to report to people like this, the only sensible option left is to talk directly to decision makers.
Be smart, though. People high up on a ledder are clever and don't have too much time to spare. Be polite, accurate and concise. Leave bullshiting for your asshead manager. The funniest part - he'll love it.
What the hell is wrong with you? Why do you feel so tempted to defend convicted criminal? Why do you think everything he does is a product of his business genius, when it clearly isn't? He stole everything he claims is his (MS) innovation. Fuck him! He is a bandit.
Thanks for mentioning that, man ;o)
Running GNAArwin OS.
Fuck, yes - they are. 24/7/365. All about money, all the time.
Not that I'm opposed to it, God forbid but I have a big problem with the 'control' part.

Aren't you close relatives?

You don't deserve to be moded as troll, since you are ignorant. 'Underrated/Overrated' moderations appear this way.
Somebody, just give me a job at Google. No additional motivation needed, whatsoever. Plus, if chef is on sick leave, I'll do his job, as well.

Smith's gonna be used at lineouts?!?
Do you feel The Pain yet?
You couldn't possibly have better signature.
I wouldn't call this situation 'unfortunate'.
yeah, both look simple enough, have you decided which is the right one, yet?
Is Linux ready for Joe Six Pack's desktop or server?

Just ask people around and let us know how many think of software licenses when they hear 'viral' and how many of them give responses like:

Good luck.
This was the most amazing thread I ever read on /.. Slashdot is still awesome, indeed.
Thank you all.

Maybe but turning it off means saving a bit of time, don't you think?
