    public trough. The internet was paid for by public tax money and corporate subsidies, but
    unavailable to most people.

    I am not an old timer, but having been on the Internet since 1992, can easily see the
    how polluted it has become.

    Alternatively, if you're a little paranoid, and you have to run a Microsoft OS. Run Tiny
    Personal Firewall, monitor whats is going ont and set up rules to block the bits
    you don't feel safe about.

    Privacy is no longer a right, its a state of mind. :-)

    some kind of trademark on the word "farking"

    There is nothing original in fark.com's use of

    Agreed that a lot of "geeks" are too lazy to become activists; or simply do not have the time. However, there are already technologically savvy groups lobbying against issues raised by our potential corporate overlords.

    In the U.S. there is the Electronic Frontiers Foundation.
    I myself donate to our own similar organisation Electronic Freedom Australia

    Anyone wanting to, can easily make a difference by supporting these and similar institutions.

    Just being aware of the issues at hand is a good start.
